Is anyone familiar with the place? Are there mountains and trout fishing nearby?

Lots of park and federal lands so I would think they have websites that might be helpful. It is beautiful country so I doubt you would ever regret a visit I can say that for sure.

Boysen reservoir is right by there and theres a dam on the north end. I saw fish (assuming trout?) stacked below the spillway when the wife and i went through there a few years ago. Awesome area. According to some atuff ive read online, some big fish come out of Boysen. Its a place i definitely want to go back to.

One of my favorite places in Wyoming. We were there again last year. I don't know about the fishing, but I don't think you'll regret the trip

Plenty of mountains around and the bighorn river flows right through Thermopolis. Great place to visit been a couple of times while hunting. If you go take a trip to Merlins Hide Out it's a great fur shop and cool place to visit. There's some camp grounds in the wind river gorge just south of Thermopolis that have access to the river for fishing but you might think twice about camping there between the truck traffic on the highway and train tracks on the other side it's not exactly peaceful. Plenty of places close, the wind river comes from Boysen reservoir and after it leaves the Indian reservation it turns to the bighorn river, you can fish the wind river with a license from the reservation. And there is plenty of mountains close.

It's not far from Cody. Would be a crime to be that close and not go to the firearms museum. Catch a meal or a drink at the Erma. Rodeo every night (or they used to before covid)

Visited a friend who lived there and since passed. We floated down the big horn river and caught trout all day. Lots of BLM land. Wide open beautiful place.

Happy trapping! ScottW

X2 but be prepared to be a bit overwhelmed by the collection. Absolutely incredible!

Looks like a real neat place to visit.

I don't care how nice the hand soap smells, you should never walk out of the restroom sniffing your fingers.

I lived in Thermop for 4 years in the late 80's. I floated the river 2, 3, sometimes even 4 times a week.

There is "TONS" of moss in the river.!!!!!! Its almost impossible to fish lures. Guys that fish flies do OK. We just floated nite crawlers down for our best results. You might want to check the regs to see if that is still legal. They wanted to turn that into a trophy area for some time.

When the wardens were shocking the river they said there was about 1,500 fish per mile of river.

Boyson is good as well, and below the dam is too. If water is coming over the dam the walleye fishing is real good.

Brookie fishing in the Big Horns used to be awesome but too many people up there now days

I've been to the Cody museum twice. It is overwhelming. Just too much stuff. There is a darn good steakhouse downtown on the north side of the street.

Don't remember but the wait staff wrote their name upside down and backwards on a big sheet of wax paper that was the table cloth. When they cleared the table they just grabbed the 4 corners and carried the whole works away. Darn good eating. I can't imagine it gone unless it burned.
