Today at my Nephew's scrap yard I found a bucket of traps. Amazing what some people scrap. [Linked Image]

3 #4 Victor DLS, 2 #3 Victor DLS, 2 #2 Victor DLS, 8 #1 Onida Victor SLS( 4 with crimp on teeth) 1 #1 Herrera single coil, 1 #1 Victor jump, 1-110 body grips and one #2 size double spring jump in poor condition. All traps set and fire fine except the one in poor condition.

Wish I had more time to trap....

Somebody stole them and figured it was easier to get rid of them this way.

Did you check the name on the trap tags?

The trap tags are on all the DLS and a few of the singles. I will gladly give them back to the owner if they were stollen. I doubt I could figure out exactly who dumped them because they had been there a while, prog a day or 2, and some stuff had been unloaded on top of them. I live in Houghton Lake, MI and the trap tag address was Muskegon,Mi. That is not uncommon since we are north and a lot of people hunt, fish and trap here from out of town. I think the one who said they were thrown out by ignorant family members is right. The one trap is a Herter no whatever spell check put in there and I am not even sure I spelled it correctly. Has anyone ever seen or used a single coil trap before? I didn't know there was such a thing but that is how it was built. Not modified to that.

Wish I had more time to trap....

Is this anything special? If not I'm gonna use it for rats.

Use that single coil for rats. A fairly common trap.

At one point in the 1970s, Victor made a single coil trap. Not very popular. After a couple of years, they went to a double coil, which was much more popular.

Single coils can be a bit touchy to set at first, especially if you have big hands.

Nice find, BTW.

I had some of the Victor single coilspring traps. Kind of light for rats so I traded them away at a convention. Great find at the scrap yard for sure!

I have about a dozen of those too Chris, they were in a box of traps I got from an old trapping partner when I bought his line.He used them for the old style marten spruce cubby sets.Like you said-very light trap for rats. They had the jaw tabs turned to the inside.
