Anyone here ever grow celery plants? I picked up a dozen plants and got them in a raised bed of mushroom compost. Any tips?

No, but keep us posted. I've thought about trying to but since I know of know way to can it and it doesn't freeze well I just buy and use it fresh since I use as much celery as I do onions in cooking.

Raw celery, the vegetable that tastes like a mouthful of nothing. I need to have dip with mine or at least salt. I've had it in few cooked dishes when it's mixed with other stuff. I envy most of you guys at gardening time. I suck at it and can kill any plant or flower faster than anyone else I know.

I can't cook without the trinity.

Celery is not a complete food by itself. You must have it filled with peanut butter to become real food!

Have for years. They say to blanch it by building up mulch around it so it whitens. Sometimes I do but makes no difference to me. I use it in soups and sauces. Much better than store bought.
I can sometimes keep it in garden through winter. Biannual. will bolt to seed second year.
I need a couple plants, would trade for warm peppers.
I gotta get to the green house for a couple more odds and ends.

The kids always liked it with peanut butter.

The wife told me celery was healthy to eat so I wrapped it in bacon, put it on the grill. She just rolled her eyes, and not the way she rolled them when we were younger!

I have heard of people shrouding the stalks with white 4” pvc pipe to keep the sun from making it bitter. Don’t know anything about it, but I’m giving it a try.

Feed it to cows then eat the cow.

Once you get this, you wont do store bought.

I love celery in soup and stuffing, which is why I don't grow it. Soup and stuffing season is in the winter.

4” pipe would work but I use a large elastic rubber band.

The best salary I have ever eaten was thick and dark green and not a bit bitter. It was grown by Japanese truck farmers in Fife Washington. I don't know where it got sent off to, but I have never seen anything like it in the stores.

I chop celery real fine and put a little in my devil eggs, it’s great and gives them a little crunch.
