Why I posted my personal information about my health was not for attention to myself. I wanted to tell my story so anyone that is afraid to get any health check up / test is to illustrate what putting off a day of testing can risk loosing what you cherish most, family the outdoors and freedom. Thanks for the thoughts and prayers. My health issues are in God's hands, if they weren't I would not be here!

Larry thank you for sharing your personal medical issues. That definitely does help push the rest of us in the direction of more routine checkups. I think most of us men that go out and enjoy life all feel a touch of immortality or "that will never happen to me" attitude and stories like yours remind us that there are things out there that we can not see and not always feel that can kill us despite or skills in the woods.

I want to share what I observed in my tree stand 25 feet up during moose season. I would set high up above the meadow behind my cabin for hours. I would be in the stand early. One evening as I was in my perch there were 8 cows and calves in the meadow that appeared. I was reading a book and first 1 then 2 and then all 8. They were feeding. All of a sudden a cold breeze on may neck very slight just enough to make the leaves in the birch tree move. It took a minute or so and the closest cow put her nose in the air and her and her calf disappeared and in the next few minutes I witnessed each cow put her nose into the air and disappear as my scent worked its way on such a slight breeze move through the 300 yard wide meadow. I don't know if it was the cup of coffee I was drinking or the bacon and eggs I had before going but it was so cool to watch each one wind me and disappear. I don't know how many times I showed up at the meadow and they winded me as I walked the 1/3 of a mile and to see an empty meadow.

Another time I was at the base of the 32 ft. extension ladder that I used to get to my perch. I heard something to my left so I just sat down on a downed log. I finally saw what I heard and it was a moose, All I could see was an ear and it was aimed at me like a radar screen. I looked at my watch and after looking at this ear checking me out for over an hour and one half I went ahead and climbed up to my perch and from that vantage point I could see 2 young moose. I was in my perch for another hour before they moved into the meadow and they were both cows. My thought was after this experience how many times have I walked close to a moose and did not know it!

I didnt shoot from my perch just observed. I had shooting stations in several locations at the edge of cover.

Those times taught me how many different senses that moose use to protect themselves.

I have never noticed their sense of smell being utilized so well but their ears for sure. Good to know they have such a great sense of smell also.
