I have a boat that I have owned for 8 years, starting last year have had a trailer issue. First time I thought I got sloppy loading, as the boat listed to port side when I got on level ground. Next trip out same issue, backed it into the water and got it dead center bow to front roller and stern even from bunk board to bunk board. Got home and checked the tires pressure good on both sides. Figured one of the bunk boards slipped but the same and no new wear marks on bolts. Figured it must be a soft bunk board, next trip out unloaded the boat and both myself and friend stood on both bunk boards and no give. Checked the bunk board mounts both sides were tight and same distance from trailer. Nothing new motor wise to change the weight distribution same load. Im thinking it has to be a bad leaf spring and did a visual inspection but could see no cracks on the outer springs. Im thinking it must be a inner spring that is cracked. loaded the boat several more times got in the water and messed with it but still on level ground it leans to port. Any advice or ideas?? I have had the boat for 8 years and usually just power it up to the bow roller and pull out and all is good. Stumped but thinking its the springs on the port side.

Load the boat, park on level ground and start measuring with a tape measure. Start from the bottom. Is the axle the same height from the ground on both sides? If yes, then the problem is above there. The frame? The spring shackles? Measure until you find the discrepancy.

Silly question, but is your boat significantly heavier on that side?

What is the boat hill made of, aluminium, fiberglass? Old fiberglass can break down and weaken considerable over time, especally if it is not supported properly on the bottom side.

KenaiKid will check that out and makes sense as for the next step. Garart as far as the boat its all aluminum and no rivets so not a water issue

If measuring frame height difference doesn't convince you get a couple spare U bolts from Tractor Supply and rotate the springs you have side to side. If the low side changes to the other side you have your answer and it gives you a chance to inspect each set of leaf springs.

Pro tip: if you dont have an air impact gun do this at a buddies shop who does. The words you would say unscrewing u bolt nuts with hand tools could land you in divorce court and I'd rather flip some cash to the Snap On man than deal with the dammed lawyers

Chances are you'll be better off just cutting the ubolts off and replacing them. Just changed leaf springs on my truck today, so I know what I'm talking about. smile I know they spray the deicer and salt the roads here and it makes those U-bolts rust up so they won't come off with an impact gun, even. Used to not be too bad with an impact gun before they started putting the crap on the roads. Now I just take a grinder and cut them off and replace. I'm guessing they will be corroded good on a boat trailer.

Obviously if you buy new ones you should be able to unbolt them easily to replace springs if you test like Leftlane suggests, so you will only have to rotate once.

u bolts are not rusted and are galvanized but will use an impact wrench for sure. I might even take it in my back is not the best anymore and not a lot of clearance, some things I would just as well pay for at my age.

Any clues as to why the leaf spring broke? Pothole? Defective? Trapped water froze and broke it?

both mechanic and I agreed defect you can see an impression in the spring and one other that does not show on the other springs. That is why I changed them all out no need to have an accident and bust up a boat and fishing trip.
