My Polaris 2011 800 xtp Ranger UTV has been nothing but a complete pain in the donkey. I never ever thought that a quart of oil was normal every 100 miles I have learned many different things with this piece of Polaris junk. So I hope some of you guys can tell something good about the Honda Pioneer..

Hi Huntcook, in 2015 we bought a Honda Pioneer 500 new . as of today it has a bit over 9000 miles on it. and we haven't had any problems with it whatsoever. We bought it to use on the trapline and that is mainly what we use it for, but also use it for hunting and fishing in the back country. WE bought the 500 , because it is small, only 50 inches wide , we bought it to work with, not to play, and it will only go about 40MPH and then the governor kicks in. It gets very good gas mileage. The only bad thing I don't like about it,, it should have a better muffler on it, it is noisy. if you have any questions, let me know.

I’ve had the Pioneer 700 for 2 years now and I put a decent season on it this year with no problems.

I have modified my 2018 Pioneer 700 to be trapper friendly. Zero problems with it. Good power and it will haul or pull a considerable load. Basically a smaller wheel base 1/2 ton+ truck. I think the rated load is 1,200 lbs and towing is 1,300 lbs.

Here is a post with some pics:

I have a 2016 Honda 1000-5, no issues at all. Love the size for in woods and tighter areas. Good ground clearance, power, and room.

Bought one 2 seasons ago, a Pioneer 500 because it's narrow. 2500 miles, zero problems a good dependable machine. Makes checking traps a lot faster and keeps rough miles off my truck.

Only issue I’ve heard of is they put off some heat in the cab area. They may have that fixed now. I know a guy that traded his in because it was so bad. I’m pretty sure they got that fixed from what I could find online.

Have the 700-2 Pioneer. 2017 model. Love it. No problems...yet.

It did generate heat from under seat...esp warm during summer use. Cut a fitted piece of foil covered thermal sheeting. Heat not bad now.

The Pioneer is quiet enough that you can carry on a conversation when riding without shouting. It pulls well thru deep mud. Rarely need 4x4. Mine has full time posi-traction in rear axle and limited slip when in 4x4 high. When in 4x4 low front axle is positive traction. It will tear up your lawn when turning sharp due to positive rear axle.

And...there are NO belts in/on this machine. The tranny is like an automotive transmission.

I have the 1000-5 and the family ranch has the 700. There is absolutely no comparison between them. After spending some time in the 1000 there is no way I could switch to the 700. The frame broke on mine at about 1500 miles, Honda was amazing to deal with in getting it replaced though and took care of everything.

If I was going to do it all over again I would do the same thing in a heartbeat.

I would like to thank you for your feed back on the Honda Pioneer. I got my Polaris 800 right after I retired mainly for trapping at that time, but later it became the work tool of the farm. I told my wife if either the tractor or utv broke down at the same time the utv would get fixed or replaced first. This is not my toy - I use it almost daily on the farm. I am up to 52 hives of bees and a utv is desperately needed for my bee operation from hauling firewood to taking grandkids ride. I need something that is dependable and something not to aggravate a old man.

Probably a little out of your defined radius but I deal with Sports Cycle in Rockingham, NC. First class folks for sure and they sell lots of ATVs and UTVs.

I bought my Pioneer 700 at M&E Honda in Bedford In. It is a smaller family owned store and we have had good luck. I wish it had another gear because we road ours quite a bit and it is governed at 43mph. When we trade it in I’ll be shopping for the pioneer 1000.

Looks like he needs another year;-)
