First thing I did when I inherited my dad's trap guns was have the release trigger mechanisms removed.
Might not have saved that guy's toe but I never could get used to shooting with them.
Eh...wot?

Well I was shooting trap today at Linn Creek Missouri, Missouri state trapshoot. Waiting for our squad to shoot next when a call came across the PA system for a nurse to respond to an emergency just a couple traps down.so we start looking and a crowd is gathering. My dads best friend who was shooting with us is a retired anesthesiologist so he/we head over there. Ol boy had his single barrel trap gun resting on his toe ( very common) but for whatever reason decided to close the action and let go of his release trigger and BANG! Shot himself in the foot, blew his second toe off. He's gonna be fine, just minus a toe and sore for While. Note to self.... don't point loaded gun at self.... Have you Evah hear of a guy Named Chuck Devinny....he does some skeet and trap shooting
It is better to die on your feet than to live on your knees.

My dad had a scar between two of his toes. He claims that he accidentally shot himself hunting while riding a Jersey cow. They couldn't afford to keep a horse.
I'm just a soul whose intentions are good. O Lord please don't let me be misunderstood.

Ouch, he should donate his shoe to the hunter education. Itd be a good reminder for the kids.
I know a guy that did the same thing but he was hunting, shot a 280 down threw his foot and it ricocheted back up through. He hobbled around for 6 months lost a few toes and some foot.

I never understood resting the barrel of a gun on your foot but it's THE way to do it if you're a trap shooter. They even make special trap shooting shoes to rest your gun barrel on. Why one of the three rules of gun safety doesn't apply to trap shooters is a mystery.
