So mu truck has always been kind weird but lately it's send to gotten worse basically this what happens.
Once I get about 55 ( my dial reads five miles ahead if what I'm actually going ) my RpM basically level out to around 3000
[Linked Image]

But then it starts going higher by it's self, and when I let off the gas to slow don so my RPMs jump up to 4000
[Linked Image]

I have to flutter the gas petal slightly and it goes back down to 3000 And I slow down.

Sounds like something in my transmission ain't working quite right and I might should see about getting a rebuild I'm not much of a mechanic though so what do y'all think ?

Sometimes it’s easier to swap out a used one then pay the rebuild prices.

Was born in a Big City Will die in the Country OK with that!

Yeah I've been looking into that as well. Hopefully I can hurry up and get this new job and just buy a new little beater whistle

Make and model?

Got something similar to that with a S10 Blazer and traced it down to the mass air flow sensor, could also be throttle body sensor.

Might not be internal to the tranny and just a solenoid, but I am not a person that knows enough to call it.

Check the trans fluid - is it brown - does it smell burnt ??
There are sensors that go bad , that will make you think your trans is going out ...
I've seen speedometers go bad and makes trans shift funny ...
Speed sensors go bad , computer doesn't know how fast the truck is going ..
Lots of things before you blame tranny ...

Comes and goes without relation to pedal I'd look to a sensor issue rater than mechanical. Transmissions usually slip at all speeds or break all at once.

Can you hear the motor speed up?

Could be something wrong with tach?

I would look at that first.

I had a ford that would act like it slipped, rev way up and shift real hard.
It was a sensor in the rear end that was bad

Are you sure the fluid is at proper level, checked correctly. If is smells burnt it is burnt, if it is filled to correct level and also smells burnt you have a trans problem. 1990 probably does not have too many sensors or electronic controls. Sounds a lot like Torque Converter Clutch slipping, often times due to low fluid.

you're only allowed so many sunrises... I aim to see every one of them!

I would try a fluid dump (not power purge, actually taking the pan off) and filter change and add a bottle of Lucas transmission additive. It is a 1990 but may be an electrical issue IDK.

Had a 98 Dodge 1/2 ton
Did the same thing
It was a ground
If I remember right, the shop diagnosed it by applying the brake slightly while cruising at the same time the accelerator
Mime the rpm would climb

Does it have a full lock up torque converter? Might be a problem with that, try dropping down a gear and see how it acts.
