In Canada it means I can now apply to get my Minors permit at 16, which allows me to shoot firearms without a licensed adult (by myself)

Good deal. Congratulations

I remember when I was ten my friends and I would go squirrel hunting, walked down the road to where we turned off to the woods to hunt.
No one thought a thing abt it, no one got shot.
Fun times.
Things have really changed a lot since those days.
It’s sad, just sad.
Congratulations

I think most if not all states require a hunter safety course here in the U.S. in order to hunt legally. I don't know all the state requirements to purchase a firearm. Ks has none beyond a minimum age and no criminal convictions. I suspect that one day someone will take the hunter safety requirement to court. In KS it is a recognized right to hunt.

????, this is the mantra that I have a hard time accepting. It never has been the well taught responsible ones causing issues, so why make things harder for them. What we need to correct in our nation is how we raise our children. Not necessarily among this group, but a large part of our nation I’m afraid, has not taught the younger generations the value of hard work and the responsibilities that come with it. Common sense is not so common anymore.

very good.

I am never opposed to training , we could all use more , I frequently dislike Government training as far too many people get a poorly presented 4 hour training then feel they are Grand Masters and need no more training ever.

Keep learning always

as long as we are explaining how these things work

in WI you need hunters Ed to hunt un mentored

mentored hunting you can take your 3 year old (any age) and as long as there is only one gun between the two of you and they are not out of arms reach they can purchase and fill a license.

with hunters ed you can hunt at 12 you can hunt within sight and sound distance of your adult

at 14 you can hunt by yourself id you have 2 years experience

at 18 you can purchase rifle or shotgun at a store or a rifle , shotgun or handgun from a private party

at 18 you can open carry as long as you keep 1000 feet from any school grounds

at 21 purchase of handguns in a store

at 21 as long as you are not a prohibited person they must issue you a CWL concealed weapons license (the hunters ed you took when you were 12 counts as your proof of training or the 4 hour DOJ training is another option)

a major difference is that any one can buy a gun

this is of course what the GOV lays down to try and pretend they are in control or that criminals care at all about their rules and laws.

it is also a State Constitutional right to hunt , fish and trap in WI

most of us need to purchase a license , the state does not require land owners to purchase a license to trap or to hunt small game on their own land deer , bear , elk , turkey all need a license even if on your own land although land owner preference tags may be issued.

if you are only hunting or trapping small game on your own land you do not need hunters ed or trappers ed either

I believe this is how it can be called a Right and not get challenged.

According to Government studies gun accidents have decreased a bunch since hunter ed became mandatory. I have no problem with the regulation as it is being used today. My worry is that allowing it to be mandatory, the right bureaucrat could make it impossible to pass.

The number of people hunting and fishing is getting less and less. We have more single parents than any time in history.
There are fewer dad's teaching our youth to hunt and teach the gun safety!
I would like to see a coarse in gun safety in our schools. Not just hunting gun safety. Class would cover, pistols, revolvers, all the different shot guns, all the different type of rifles. All the different ammo and loads. Different type of bullets and shot loads.
Don't forget black powder. How to handle all types of guns and rifles. When done with the coarse go out and shoot them all.
Some of your youth do not know or understand how firearms work. I feel the coarse would greatly reduce the number of your youth
that accidently shoot each other. JMO OK go at it.

Gun safety used to be taught in schools. We shot bows in P.E. I fail to see any problems with it so long as the goal is safe use and not another way to deny the right.

Facts showed that when Hunter Education courses became mandatory years ago, hunting accidents dropped dramatically across the country. When I taught hunter ed for many years in PA, at the beginning of the course, I would cringe how some of the students would handle a firearm. I also believe, every new firearm owner should take a firearms safety course (on a voluntary basis).
