If you know any drywalling contractors or if you see any one doing drywall they will give you all you want I'm just like you I hate to pay for bucket even in the long run probably cheaper than running down free ones.

For hauling dry goods (b/c you loose the ability to seal) I drill out the holes bigger and thru the sidewall and add rope. Like someone posted a short run of PVC would make a good handle hold for heavy loading

Set them outside . Let mother nature do what she does best. Rain a nd sunshine will leach out about any odor.
