One morning I was heading to work on a road that crosses a marsh. There was a mini-van parked and the driver was out approaching a coon that was slobbering and staggering all over the middle of the road. I stopped and told her to stay away from it. She said "We have to help it!!!!!" I told her again to stay away from it as it was a sick coon. She kept walking around close to it even though I kept telling her to stay back. I told her the best thing she could do for that coon would be to run it over but she gave me the stink eye. I finally said "Ma'am, you are on your own." and drove away with her standing between my truck and the coon. Sometimes you can only do so much for people...and sick coon.

Moosetrot I think you have identified the problem. Some of the most passionate people (who vote) know the least about the subjects they are passionate about.

Do you agree?

The positive theme from this thread is Danny treated the coon and it isn't sick anymore.

Flathead, how did I see so many rabid animals? I ran into rabid animals in NJ since 1990 when rabies first came to our state. In 25 years of running a wildlife control business we had quite a few rabid animal calls each year. Besides the obvious ones also dealt with rabid deer, cows, beaver, otter and black bears. In 1990 my stepmother was a nurse in our local hospital and 2 women died there from rabies. The state required the death certificate not list cause of death as rabies but rather pneumonia. Didn't want the public to panic.

Nope eric space, was wondering WHERE, you see all the rabies. Looks like NJ? That is really surprising to me. I hardly ever hear about rabies around here except for people who see sick coon and assume it's rabies. Usually it's really parvo or distemper from what I understand. Not many actual rabies cases.
