I have a 2 inch auger to make dirtholes.

I'm currently using a Ridgid 18 volt drill. It doesn't seem to have enough power when popping in multiple holes and seems like it overheats easily.

Can y'all recommend a better drill for this?

BT45 with 1/2" drill chuck instead of the bulb planter attachment

Which ridgid 18v?

I'm needing to upgrade from ryobis and am looking at the ridgid and see that they have something like four different 18v models in just the hammer/drill alone. Brushless, brush, compact, etc.

On a serious note, I'd look at the Milwaukee 18v drills. Lots of power. I am very impressed with the Milwaukee brand battery tools.

If you're in that red Ga heavy clay......forget any drill/auger. Use a hole punch...unless you have rocks. Then make only flat sets.

Swamp Wolf, will a hole hold it's shape in the sand down there?

Yes...most areas here have more of a sandy loam soil. There is pure sugar sand in some areas....not so much there.

It's that beach sand/sugar sand I would have no idea of how to make a set in.

Most sugar sand areas here are in pockets/small areas. Have to be careful anchoring there....but bobcats use these areas as toilets always.

We have one section of road that is sandy and a breeze to set and anchor in. I’d set 500 traps a property if it was all that way, lol.
Just dig out a little of the loose sand, pound in anchor (only use 12” cabled super stake) and then bed trap. Basically just push trap down until snug and tight, then cover. Coyotes and cats seem to really like that little section and it’s about the only place I can find tracks on the property.

I use a 3” auger with a Dewalt 20v. About the only thing I use it for is getting my super stakes up. When I pound in our clay areas I sometimes have to wait until a good rain to retrieve some. This stuff drys and hardens like concrete. I’ve learned in certain areas to anchor away from the trap and I only have to go down about 6-8” or so and then trench in the extra cable and trap chain to the actual trap bed. Haven’t caught a critter yet that can pull it up when caught, including me.

I purchased the ridgid fuego drill and driver set. It has been awesome for use around the house and for projects. Just need/want something with more power for my auger bit.

The fuego is a couple generations back with around 500 in/lbs torque. Ridgid's latest octane brushless claims over three times the torque with the octane technology offering more power/runtime and less overheating.

I don't have any hands on knowledge just trying to do my due diligence before purchasing myself.

I wouldn't be caught without my Milwaukee cordless rotary hammer drill. Plenty of power, plus very versatile. I use it for chiseling sets and anchors when there is frost in the ground.
