Oh - and of course The Band of Brothers is mandatory reading. I have gobbled up a lot of WWII stuff over the years and there are some spectacular works of fiction set in that period. All the Light we Cannot See and The Book Thief are spectacular. The Forgotten Soldier is an autobiographical novel by a guy who lived in a village on the border of France and Germany - he was drafted into the German infantry and fought on the campaigns into Russia. Fascinating the way the Germans (mis)treated their troops.
