Long gone here. Dandelion pollen is an almost perfect bee feed meeting most of their amino acid and protein needs. They also provide nectar at a time bees may be running low on carbs.

I dry the flowers and use them in tea, I've also heard of you roast the roots and grind them it like a coffee substitute.

I have a good crop going. I leave them grow, bees like them and the gold finch feed on the seed. I just made a two gallon batch of dandelion mead yesterday.

My yard has very limited numbers this year as I do my controls about every 3 years. They were earlier here than typical, even with the cold late April and early May. I find doing my control work in the fall kills them a lot better and easier almost then in the spring. They are storing energy in the fall for the winter and they take the chemicals to the roots much better in fall than spring.

Been eating Dandelion greens every spring as long as I can remember. Grew up with Grandma, Mother, and all the kids picking greens every spring. Cooking them down, changing water twice then covering with crumbled bacon and drizzled with the hot grease. Just had a batch 2 weeks ago.

I have the illness. I see one, I have to pluck it. I believe I inherited it from my grandfather who showed me as a lad, that as you walk to your garden (he owned an orchard in MI) you pull a few and after days of doing this over and over, you get a good workout, you minimize the seeds from getting into your garden, and over the course of decades you win grin
Maybe.

Also learned to love raw tater cut with a pocket knife from my grandpa.
Wonder what the grand kiddos will remember from us when we're dust to dust?

Blessings,
Mark

If you keep a thick 3.5 in. crown on your grass, spread gypsum or other calcium you will limit your "problem" with Dandelion.

Can't believe how many kill poor dandelions. First spring dandelions have them nice big heads with no bugs in them. Pick a gallon them and snip the green of with scissor leaves you just most the flower. Boil that in water makes nice kettle of tea. Add in some sugar and Sure jell and got few jars Dandelion jelly. Is little bit a screwing around. Get it right and I think it actually taste lot like honey. For sure taste better that Weed B Gone.. eek

We like oldies.

I wanna try what Mac said, next year.
Tap root weeds bring trace minerals to surface.
That's my story. I have yard, not lawn, though lawns are all good.

a couple Wisconsin cities passed ordinances that you don't need to mow your lawn till June 1 to help the bees

I don't live in one of those cities but I tried waiting as long as I could when it was over a foot I had to mow then I let it get to a foot again then mowed last night. my clover is coming in good now I try and only mow half the clover in any week and leave the other half of the yard

mostly I hate mowing but I also like the bees I see in my clover which is all around my garden

They make darn good wine.....sunshine in a bottle! Made three gallon once and five gallon another time. To make good wine from them, you have to remove every trace of green from the blossom. It is a ton of work and time to do, and no matter how good it is, I haven't got that much time normally. Also it needs awhile in the bottle to make it shine, you try it too early and reminiscent of turpentine! About two years is perfect!
