They don't give a rip about public safety or whatever you want to call it. They want the rifles because ya cant fight a war with pistols. Once they have those its open season on everyone that does not meet their standards. Stalin, Polpot, Hitler, Mussolini , Franco and a bunch of others all did exactly the same thing. The communist party here has a hard time going down that road because of the constitution. They would abolish it in a heartbeat and will once the rifles are out of their way. A few million folks with rifles and a will to defend their way of life is the only obstacle in their way of joining the ranks of the above mentioned dictators and their likes.

Lack of available ammo should be looked into, imo. It isn't a lack, them above mentioned millions of folks with rifles have it and anymore they can get their hands on.  Scuba isn't the only one that payed attention in history class.
