https://www.foxnews.com/us/north-carolina-infant-dogs-attackI always told my family any indication of nastiness out of my dog and it'd be one strike and he's out. It seems incredible to me that these 2 dogs aren't dead already and even more amazing that there is an option to bring them back home.

They were originally German herding dogs. They are a loyal and intelligent breed and usually pretty easy-going.

I know you are right and I have seen more than one that considered herding kiddos meanin you'd have faced some big teeth to try to take any of them. Do ya reckon that some knot heads bread some to fight and be extra aggressive and that genetic trait just pops up or is it more on the owners fault for not teachin them manners b4 the got too big to handle?

They suffered the same fate as Dobermans and pit bulls. Irresponsible breeders and idiots. Not all even though pure bred are good breeding stock. I had one of each before they became popular. Best dogs I ever had and both would watch over the kids and family.

Also, there are always going to be individual dogs within any breed that are just born with a mean streak. Personally, I tend to lean towards the owners being at fault. So many people just do not understand the importance of training a house dog to be a gentleman or a lady. It takes time and patience. And it takes a basic understanding of dog behavior. We’ve all seen dogs who simply ignore the commands of their owners when something they are interested in is going on.

I'm not okay with people owning vicious dog breeds. How an animal turns out is only partly due to how it was raised. The propensity for things like aggression and violence is genetic. It's the same in human beings, btw. Ever hear of the Warrior gene?
Rotts are bred to be mean, aggressive dogs. My brother and sister-in-law own one, and their excuse is that the dog can run along with her when she goes out for exercise. Know why they want a Rott?
Bear protection.
The last Rott they owned bit my son. I almost went to their house and scattered the dog's brains over the kitchen floor. I wasn't sorry when that dog died.

The propensity for things like aggression and violence is genetic. I had an English Springer that suffered from what they used to call Rage Syndrome. I wasn't familiar with the breed and had no idea such a thing existed. Somewhere between its first and second year it set in. Without warning, the dog would fly into an uncontrollable rage and would lunge at whatever was handy be it your hand or face. I walked into a shop one day and a Springer came from a room out back and greeted me. Shortly thereafter the owner came out. We got to talking and I told her I owned a Springer as well. Just about the time we discovered our dogs were littermates the lady started crying and telling me about her dogs behavior. Her dog suffered from it to. She was at a loss as to what to do. They become part of the family and then Cujo shows up. I put mine down. It seems to me the breeder must have known about the problem, but if she did, she never let on.

Jim You can ban specific breeds but I don't know how "vicious dog breeds" would be defined. If it's based on bites, chihuahuas rank pretty high but I am not worried about chihuahuas.

I don't usually get involved in these threads. But please folks get it into your heads that 99% of the time its the owner that need put down not the dog. Most pit bulls, Dobermans, Rottweilers, German shepards are either owned to protect homes and families or for show. ... these days mostly for show and only few of them are trained right. reasons are that the folks who own them don't know how to train a dog and or can't afford someone to do it for them. So please don't be so quick as to put the blame on the dog. Its like putting the blame on the firearm when a nutcase goes out shooting a joint up.

For the love of God people , a dog is an animal not a human , like Disney wants you to believe .
I know there are people who think they are dog whisperers but you'll never really know what a muttt is thinking.
Large dogs are capable of killing other animals and humans and sometimes do . Just because a person feeds ,
Houses , and french kisses their mutt daily doesn't mean it wouldn't kill a small child if left alone .
Never trust an animal

Never trust an animal Dude you have no idea do you ... I trust my dog way more that most people and that includes you as i don't know you. If you come into my hose and I am not there. You will be there unharmed when I get back unless you try to force your way out. I don't lock my truck either and the same thing applies.

So please don't be so quick as to put the blame on the dog. Its like putting the blame on the firearm when a nutcase goes out shooting a joint up. This! I rescued an abused Rottie 15 years ago. He was a sweet dog. He lived me and my yellow Lab at the time. His abusive past caught up with him once he bonded with the 2 of us. The Male figure in his previous home beat him. He NEVER once associated that with me, however any other man ... brothers, father.. that came over, he did show aggressive behavior. I ended up having to put him down for that reason. 2nd hardest decision I've had to make, after having to put down said yellow Lab for medical reasons. Flip side to this is a past girlfriend's brother had a massive Rottie who was a teddie bear from the time I met him. He would drop his tennis ball at my foot and when I'd pick it up he'd growl like a grizzly bear. It was intimidating until I was told that's how he let's you know he was playing! I loved that dog! I currently have a German Shepherd. She has a bigger heart than my black Lab. I trust that dog with my grandson's life! I don't have experience with dobermans or pitbulls so I won't comment on those breeds, but German Shepherds and Rotties, I can say, their upbringing determines their personalities. Poodles however, are some of the meanest dogs I've met! James, please site your sources on Rotties. As stated, they are a herding dog, not a fighting or guarding breed. I am sorry your son was bit though, I'd put a .44 to ANY dog that did that.
