most of my favorite poles came with a hook keeper ,it is a great convenience feature on any pole . I have several that don't have a hook keeper and so the line guide strut gets used , I have though about breaking out the epoxy , thread and some small wire and making a hook keeper. that sounds like a good winter project and it isn't winter it's fishing season. I was thinking the zip ties with the hole for a #10 screw to hang cables and mount cabling should work and be fast easy and not permanent if I don't care for the location https://www.farmandfleet.com/products/803511-gardner-bender-black-uvb-mounting-cable-ties.htmlanyone else use these ?
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Same as M. Magis... even the rods w/ keepers I use the largest "gathering" guide closest to the reel... old habits die hard. Best ones I ever used were on a couple of custom rods made w/ a loop of 100 lb. test mono formed into a loop and wrapped in a couple of inches above the foregrip.

I never really liked them. I prefer to use the eyes. I think it's the placement, they're always placed right where I place my hand to carry my rods, so I end up grabbing a hook. Same here, for the same reason. I only use them when fishing. When I am done I cut the hook off. Otherwise they always seem to get caught on something/someone or all tangled up.

In 40 some years of fishing, often 100+ days/year, I’ve never had it cause a problem with an eye. I think I’ll keep taking my chances. Not sure what type of fishing do or with what type of equipment but I have replaced many guides for customers over the years on store bought rods and a good chunk of those are from hook barbs marring the eye or too much pressure put on a guide post. To each his own everyone has a different way of doing things that works for them. Every rod I build has one. I am also quick to correct anyone in my boat not using it on my equipment.

I always use the hook holder have never gotten a hook in my hand. If your rod and reel are balanced properly you shouldn't be holding it where you'll get hooked
