What are your thoughts on it? You reckon it'll be fine? You reckon they'll smell the dip and wont commit to the set?
Let me know your thoughts!!! laugh

What about painting them? If so, what do you think is a good colour/texture of paint?

There are a lot of options I like better. I have had speed dip get tacky all over again on a warm spell. Everyone says I didn't mix it right and maybe it's true but I am going to take a long look at FMJ and similar products

Why not just boil and wax?

Use premium fuel, or Coleman fuel whatever it says. Dip them when hot out and let them sit outside for as long as possible. Summer even and you'll be fine .

If you are out to avoid messy speed dip might definitely be a bad choice for you.

Well I speed dip my water traps and it's not all that bad. It's just wax drips everywhere and with the pot I have it takes forever....

I paint mine flat black or brown. I have dipped traps and they seem to stay on the tacky side for a long time. Water traps would be ok but right now I am going to stick with painting.

Dakota Line's dip is supposed to be odor free. I don't know if it is sticky

I used FMJ on my yote traps and didn't like it at all. Think the coyotes could smell it or something but thats just my opinion. In the end its more work to strip that crap off and start over with wax.

I tried the waterbased speed dip, just ok. I tried FMJ, did'nt like it at all. If the ground had moisture it would turn white and get mushy. and smell. . I tried dipping in thinned enamel paint but it seemed to slow the trap. I've come full circle back to dyeing and waxing and will be trapping yotes on a permit in about a month.

One thing I noticed about trapping farm field where the farmers use fertilizer. The speed dip nor the FMJ would slow rusting from the fertilizer. The enamel painted and dyed/waxed traps fared much better.

i never looked at dying and waxing as a chore, to me its part of the chase. an important step, a huge step cause if not done right everything else you do at the set isn't gonna help. Much like hanging stands for archery season, its part of the chase for a successful end result. I love waxing, to me its the only way

I have used Speed Dip and was not pleased at all. It took forever to get the gas smell to dissapate.
I got to using Newt’s Formula One years ago on my water traps and never had a problem. I make it thinner and jist dip the an extra time. When my footholds got shined up by raccoons I would power wash them and dip them again.
Put them back out the next day.

I started doing all my coyote traps in F1 and have never had any problems.
I can take a new dozen MB 550’s and degrease them dio them in F1 and they are ready the next day with no odors.
