Agree. I speed dip when the temperature hits around 90 degrees and expect it to stay that way for a while. I let them outside in this type of weather preferably in direct sunlight for at least a month. Didn’t notice
any decline in my coyote catches when I started to use speed dip.

Consider that your soils are very acidic are they not.
Go with wax dipping.

I use Stoes brown dip. 93 octane. Dilute 1 quart to 2 or 2.5 gal gas(2 gal works better on newer traps). Dip before july. Hang outside to dry under an overhang(air breeze is your friend) until trapping starts(mid nov here). Been catchin yotes 20 some yrs this way.

You guys sound like a bunch of nerds. My traps are caked with dirt and tangled up in a big ball right now from trapping last fall and will stay like that till the day I start trapping this year!

You can even skip the dye part and just wax them. I bought a couple old crockpots at garage sales for $5 each. I use one for waxing traps, the other for making waxed dirt.
I buy 10 lb blocks of unscented candle wax from Hobby Lobby on sale or with a coupon.
I takes some time to do several dozen traps, but its safe and I can do it over several weekends in my garage even its raining or cold out. No flames. I even quit dying g and I just wax traps now to make them a little faster, and rust proof them and freeze proof them.
Its all I do now for my coyote traps and works well. Some of my traps are very old and still work like new. Long term care of steel is really the goal plus fighting the freezing issues.
Coyotes cross paths with rusty fence, pieces of old metal, stuff from farmers in fields and bits of trash every day of their lives. If it doesn't hurt them, why would they ever be afraid of it?
Don't fret the odors just find a way to protect your investment in traps long term and go have fun using them.
Jim

The best I have used and easiest was traps painted wit a zink type paint ,Caught a lot of coyotes that way
Dip was always a problem and FMJ turned gummy in wet warm weather

I tried dip years ago and it ruined my coyote line that year. Total avoidance, and dirholes blown out from every angle but where the trap was.

I remember Asa saying a lot of the avoidance questions he got years ago came back to dip being the issue.

I went back to waxing and the issues went away.

I long ago realized there was no need to boil, dye AND wax. Just hose them off and wax. OH the hours I wasted over the decades boiling traps.

But as always, to each his/her own.

Mineral spirits is the best thing I've found to use with speed dip . You can dip water traps the day before you set if its warm and they don't cost that much more than Coleman fuel, wich I don't feel gains you much over gas . The most important thing is not dipping over wax . The wax will stay tacky and smell for months after dipping . Just boiling traps will not remove enough wax to prevent problems with tacky speed dip . . Disclaimer, .... my land traps are dyed and waxed .

I’ve tried them all, other than spray painting them which I am happy with, I’ve come back to dying and waxing Gabe.

What jabne said was spot on I think. Everyone has there opinion and everyone
Is right in the way they choose to treat traps really. Me personally I love full metal jacket
Catch plenty of coyotes. I usually die and then dip. I have painted and dipped later
And it works great also. Good luck
