I had 3 different encounters with predators this year while turkey hunting, I talked to a guy from WI that shot a yote coming in to a setup also this year. Who else has ran into the same issues this year or in the past? Had a badger eyeball a decoy years back that was a hoot the way it looked it up and down before heading out.

A few years ago I passed on a bird heading to a buddy with a bow I could of shotgunned it but it as a good bow shot the way it was heading towards him. I heard a commotion and thought he made the shot it turned out a pair of yotes tried to make a meal out of it. The yote last week made a attempt and ran 3 birds back up in the trees then made 2 more passes before it moved on.

I know it happens often but are yotes hunting the gobbling more now then in the past? Maybe gobbling could the next dying rabbit call who knows.

I get stalked by blackbear’s pretty regularly. My buddies joke with me that it’s not turkey season until I called in at least one bear.

Eh...wot?

Down South a lot of birds seem to realize that gobbling draws in predators, especially areas with a high volume of predators.
I’ve called in coyotes, bobcats, and fox with just hen calls. I once called in 3 different bobcats or the same bobcat 3 different times on the same setup at a local WMA. I called in a coyote in Kansas that almost ended up in my lap because I thought my son would shoot it. I’ve worked close to a gobbling bird only for him to shut up less than 150 yards away and then see a coyote come by dragging a turkey by its neck. Any coyote that shows up on a turkey hunt gets shot or at least shot at.
That doesn’t include aerial predators either. Crows will zero in on hens and follow them back to their nest...yes studies have been done, read up on it. I’ve watched hawks dive bomb full grown gobblers before.
So yeah, gobbling and yelping draws in predators.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Called a red fox right into my lap this year. Not the first time that's happened. Quite a few skunks over the years and one bear.

I've called in one of each: bobcat, coyote and fisher. None this year.

Might go sit out for that yote now that turkey season is over and see if it comes around again.

I once had a coyote come from nowhere, pass within inches of my decoy, and jump clear over my head where I was seated in a brush blind. He was running flat out the entire time.

It was a preseason scouting trip, but I don’t think I could have shot it with a gun, if I had one. First coyote I ever saw in NC.

Have called a few bear in, they were hunting. Several bobcat, had one knock the decoy over. Lots of coyotes over the years. Klll then every chance I get. I call more in turkey hunting, then coyote hunting. Did have a coyote help me out killing a hung up gobbler. Was across a hollow and was not coming. I guess MR coyote was sneaking up on him. Flew across to me😀

I called on in and he was trying to sneak it but then spooked up a rabbit and it jumped right over my legs as I had my back up agaisnt a cottonwood. The coyote followed him right over me and I laid him out flat.

Like you I wondered if a turkey stand didn't make a good predator stand.

My buddy and I have whacked 6 yotes while calling turkeys. 4 with shotguns and 2 with bows. We've also taken 4 or 5 yotes with turkey calls intentionally, via 22-250.

When I used to clean skulls for people, I came across more than a few lions that had bird shot in the face and skull muscle or lightly imbedded in the skull. It wasn’t enough to be lethal but I am sure it came from turkey hunters firing a hip shot when a lion creeps in on them. Saw the same thing with bears occasionally too.

Been a while back had coyote blow by within few feet of decoy. Got a buddy has had several coyotes work him, Have also had turkey buzzards circle right above me seem to be looking hard. Not sure if they come to the call or my stinking carcass they smell?? LOL Had bald eagle do same thing once too. Stop calling they circle off call they circle back??
Had badger one morning right at first light near run over my feet. I think I was just sitting where he was traveling had only made a couple squawk on call. Birds were still in trees.
