What is in it exactly ? Undercoating ? Did over 75 traps in it yesterday plus stakes an stands, be plates , about 5 or 6 to 1 part latern fuel, warmer an sunny today an let hang 2 more days in sun an shade partially , top temputure is in low 70 s, yesterday was mid 60 s, still tacky before , sone rust spots show thru on footholds, heavy surface rust a few spots on footholds , what dip do on existing rust or how far pentrate ? On rust is speed dip the best ?

Are you using the black or brown? I always dip mine twice with a day between coats.Still see a little rust hear and there. The black seems to me is just thinned out tar.The brown seems more like a paint as it dries better.

Lots of people tell me they have luck with it. Most of the time I get a trap that seems a little tacky after a week of drying. I have used black and brown. Went back to dye and wax. Gonna paint some this year also.

Speed dip dries best in late July/August heat. 80°+ temps with no humidity. Last weekend was not good drying weather for it. Rusty traps are just like your rusty truck......you cannot put a coating on rust and make it go away or stop!!

Over reduced paint works much better than speed dip

Is it just me or does anyone else see the irony? Speed Dip!! Dip your traps and then hang them out to dry!! For a MONTH OR TWO. JSMH.

I made the mistake of buying used traps that were dipped. Never again!

Use the speed dip as an undercoating to renew and refresh the rusty underside
of your Colorado vechile.

Use up the rest putting a 2nd coating on your traps.

Game over !!! laugh

I don't understand how people have so many problems with it.

Did you use GASOLINE or Kerosene/coleman fuel??

BIG difference. Don't be breathing those fumes either way

I always use gasoline. (non ethanol). I've never tried the lantern fuel but I think it might actually be recommended.

I have used Andy Stowe's dip since it came out and have never had a problem. I used lantern fuel nearly every year, premium gas a few times. I aways dipped traps in July, on a really hot day. I would hang traps to dry, and didn't touch em for a week or so. Never had any that were not dry. This was in Western Oregon, commonly called the wet side of the state. We usually have much higher humidity than the dry desert side of the state, but not enough to affect drying. Which makes me wonder if the humidity in the midwest and east coast affects the drying? Every summer there are numerous posts about dip, and all the problems. Baffles me.

It seems to go both ways. I know some very successful trappers that love it, and others that hate it. My first time using it, I followed the instructions, and it was a horrible, sticky mess. Now, I mix it thin and it seems to work well for me.
