Updates: So after harvesting the chocolate and confirming it to be a male I was going through my trail cam pictures and came across one taken two nights before harvesting the chocolate boar. The picture confirms that the black is indeed a sow! Thanks for the input and for following along!

I am trying to figure out if these are sibling boars, sows, or a mating pair. I think they are siblings. They came in together to about 50 yards from bait and then the black one boldly proceeded while the brown held back. because the black one came it took a chunk of bait and then ran off while the brown one lingered, ate for a while and met the black one as it was coming back in and then they proceeded to eat some more before being spooked and both ran off together. When they come or go the black one is always in the lead.

Boars? Sows? One of Each?

Most likely a male and female(mating pair).

You'll be able to tell the male by the long penile sheath hairs.

I think backroadsarcher may be right. I was just hoping someone with more experience than me would say otherwise. Legally I can take either or both, but would prefer to shoot boars. It is a nice color phase with a shiny coat!

Boco- I have not been able to see much of the underside of either bear. No pics or videos I have help either. I guess I will have to lower my cameras and have them face up. Ha!

Man it can be really hard to tell, I think they are both males but I wouldn't put a big bet on it. The black one in the second photo looks like a male and could even be a third bear. The head looks different. Like I said no matter how much experience you have it's hard to tell until they get to be fully mature. If I was backed into a corner on it, I would have to speculate that they are 4-5 year old males.

I've seen hundreds of bear and shot my fair share of them and I can't tell the difference. I can tell a big one from a small one but that's about it.

I would say the black to be a male, 90%+, The red also a male, 80%, The red has a wide snout that makes me place him a male.

Thanks for the input and glad to hear that I am not the only one having trouble. I just gave you a couple photos and asked. I have had the privilege of many more photos and some video as well as in person glassing and I really could be persuaded either way.

It is the same black (maybe bad picture choice on my part). I was there and took the video and these are stills from what I got.

BernieB.- Males that old hang out together? Is that normal?

Not common but they could be siblings or if there is not a sow around they can be pretty cool around each other. It's not unheard of by any means.

Just to add, every time I have shot two larger bears together at this time of the year they have always been male and female.

Like others, this time of year could, deffinetely be a male and female. I doubt that they would be siblings, seeing that they are mature. Had they both been smaller, say 125 lbs each or so, then siblings, 2 year olds. Looking at the heads, both appear to be mature. Hard to say. Didn't help much.

Likely not a shortage of bears where you are. Bait is temporarily distracting them from moose calves. Shoot them both.
