I was watching a show on TV the other night. They had a weapon called a railgun. I had never heard of this thing before. Unlike most weapons, instead of gun powder, it uses electromagnetism to fire it. It has an unbelievable speed of 4600mph. A cruise missile has a speed of around 650mph. The railgun has a range of 100 miles. It shoots a single projectile. They demonstrated this projectile going through 5 sheets of 6" plate steel spaced apart.
The downside to the weapon is that it needs 25 megawatts of electricity to fire it. The navy is working on 3 ships that will be able provide the electrical power to make it work.
I don't care how nice the hand soap smells, you should never walk out of the restroom sniffing your fingers.

Was Saddam not trying to build one and got caught tried to say the barrel was for oil production? That was a supergun. Different. Uses explosives , not magnetic forces.

the rail gun concept has been around a long time. the working models are bullet trains, some industry are getting involved in different forms for moving all types of products, there have been lots of experiments with some very powerful magnets, some of the best come out of Mongolia so they say. Fun technology to play MIT had a program moving ore in mining if I remember correctly. If I recall correctly, a few years ago NASA was experimenting with something similar to shoot supplies up to the space station.

With a range of 100 miles and a speed of over 5,000 mph, you could shoot down practically anything if you could perfect the gun.
