The best thing to use is mineral spirits . They will dry enough to set in water in a warm day if there is no wax residue on the traps . Any wax at all and they will be tacky for a long time . No matter what you use as a solvent

I brought traps in from outdoors, dry enough for have done Sunday ,, good enough job on connibears but on footholds in spots where heavier surface rust , dip didn't stick well or run off, probly paint them, to protect metal, don't understand why don't work good on some spots traps, springs good, base plate cover well, mostly spots like jaws, spring levers by ends an some pans, no.11 did not take dip real good either for some reason
