Nebraska, but since the Peoples Republic of Minnesota doesn't allow nonresident trappers, most other states won't let us trap in theirs.

I like it here, lots of variety and numbers are good. Maybe a ride along with one of the local legends would be fun here. Jim

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

I'd like to get after those upper altitude cats out west a state or 2. Maybe even snag a bigger cat like Yes Sir mentions.

I really do enjoy most everything Nebraska has to offer. 20 Scout you can come play anytime you want....If I had to pick one trip it would be somewhere I would have a chance at a few wolves. It's definitely a bucket list for me. I would love to and have had several offers to do so, including ADC work for some ranchers. But unfortunately Minnesota doesn't allow non-residents trapping (unless you own property here), therefore Nebraska won't allow us MN residents to trap there. Years ago some MN trappers pushed that law through so they wouldn't have to worry about an out of stater taking "their" critters. Those guys have done more damage to this states trapping industry than all the tree huggers have done since. Would love to turn that around so I can take you up on that offer. Wolves are on my bucket list too but our governor has taken it up upon himself to have the state manage them instead of the DNR. What a piece of work he is.....

I've actually been wondering for a while, and this seems to be a good thread to ask this question since we're discussing traveling out-of-state to trap, if there are any rules/regulations out there regarding having multiple trap tags on individual traps. Obviously it would be a state-by-state thing and rules vary wildly for individual states but I'm curious if there's anybody out there who's seen any rules prohibiting this?
In other words - all my traps have trap tags on them with my Idaho trapping number. If I wanted to take a trip to Montana, for example, pay for a nonresident trapping license and follow all the other rules/regulations regarding NR Montana trapping, could I have two trap tags on the same trap? I can't imagine they'd require you to take off your ID tag and only have a MT tag on there (but maybe). Or what if you lived in a corner of a state where you were near the intersection of ID/MT/WY, had permissions to trap in all three states, decided to pay for two NR licenses in addition to your resident trapping license - could you simply put three trap tags on every trap and have all your bases covered?
I understand that it would be slightly more work for any F&G/DNR officer to run your number if he needed to for any reason, but I can't imagine it would be THAT much extra work, so I'm not sure that any state would bother making rules prohibiting it, but I'm sure it varies from state to state. With the understanding that some states are more pro-trapping than other states, I could see a lot of states having no issue with this but some states making rules against it.
Just curious if anyone's ever run into this, seen any rules for/against it, or what most guys do in this situation if/when they travel out-of-state to do a little trapping.

Most states (possibly all, but since I haven't checked all states regs I hesitate to say that) allow you to put either your ID number OR your name and address. I have no idea what my Idaho trapping ID number is, happen to know my Oregon one by chance (it happened to be the same as the last four of a credit card I had and therefore stuck in my memory), and no idea what my Wyoming one is, or Washington (assume I still have one there, but haven't had a trapping license there since they outlawed footholds and bodygrips twenty some years ago). My address is always the same, but my number in each state is different. Therefore I just have my name and address on my tags. Simplifies everything.
I do know that Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming have no regulations on how many trap tags are on a trap and require a tag for everyone who might check that trap be on it. Either Oregon or Wyoming (can't remember which) allows (or at least used to) an immediate family member or someone carrying written permission from the trapper to check his traps, and many states allow a landowner to check traps on their private land. But back to your question, if they allow multiple tags, then I can't see a problem with having tags for multiple states on there. You could also put multiple trap ID numbers on one tag, or simply put name and address like I do.

Thanks, good info. That's actually an excellent point I hadn't even considered (just put your name/address and it would cover all the bases) because I don't use my name/address on trap tags and I kinda forgot that that's how it used to be across the board. The small, paranoid part of me doesn't like putting my name/address on there because of all the crazies out there - I don't like advertising who I am and where I live. Fortunately, I've always been in states that allow your wildlife number, trapper license number, or whatever term individual states use. I'm happy to see more and more states adopting this practice, and it seems like it's becoming more widespread, so all my tags are just numbers.

I like it here. Pretty bobcats, decent coyotes, 3 different species of fox, spotted skunks are cool, and millions of acres of BLM access. Fairly mild winters too. No water trapping to speak of, but I don’t mind.
Montana was fun, but where I was public land was non existent, landowners weren’t real friendly, and winter was a brutal SOB. Pretty coyotes though.
Honestly, as long as I can get after a big pile of canines, I don’t care where I’m doing it lol
