Got back into carp fishing lately so joined a few groups on fb dedicated to carp fishing and I gotta say some of the stuff these guys say ( UK based it seems mainly) is just painful. Like I get being nice to the fish but Jesus these guys are constantly
" your a bad fisherman it you don't use a unhooking Mat"
" Why don't you have a fish cradle"
"That fish looks like you actually laid it on the ground"
"Barbed hooks are barbaric"
" Laying fish on grass is improper care"
Yadda yadda yadda
And I can kinda understand if we're talking about their super perfect carp that are raised to be caught on the private lakes multiple times by guys who basically have to fill out a resume to fish and all that but it starts to get kinda insufferable when they start talking like this.

Like geeezzz I know it's like 98% sport fishing over there but honestly I feel like alot of these guys have drank some of the Antis tea crazy

I see that crap getting worse here. Recently read a thread on catfish1 where Georgia guys claimed to cut trotlines because they CRP all they catch and hate folks filling the freezer with catfish. And blues and flathead are non native invasive in Georgia.

You could point out if they don't keep the fish to use they are inflicting pain and damage on the fish for no purpose other than their sadistic pleasure and watch their heads spin.

I switch out triple hooks for singles for better corner of mouth piercings.

The best way to snag redhorse suckers(the big ones) is to cast your heavy treble hooked spoon downstream and rip it back at an angle upstream. The redhorse have heavy scales and by ripping your snag upstream you can hook way more since the hook catches under the scales.
Did a lot of that back in the day every spring sucker run to stock up on minkbait when mink were worth some bucks.
A heck of a lot of fun too.

Man i always thought of the carp as kind of a right wing dont take no crap hard (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman). I actually caught one with a dip in its lip once. Spit in my eye and i threw him back. I guess theyre gettin woke like everyone else…. Get off facebook, grab a can of corn and some barbed hooks and get after them!

Bonus points to anyone who remembers what Andy and Barney did to a carp in season 1 of the Andy Griffith show!

When I was a kid I loved fishing carp . I would head down to a bridge in my town where the main river ran under it. I would lay down on the bridge and then try to slide a treble hook under the carp's belly. When I was sure I was in position I would yank up with my pole. Let me tell you it was a heck of a wild ride and you better be hanging on as these carp were 3 to 4 feet long. Even snagged a big old snapping turtle once this way. The Jewish people in my town really liked carp and they were the only ones that ate them. Wolfdog you just need to get off those on line forums and go do your own thing. Forget about those people!

I used to kill every carp I caught, then throw it back, for the raccoons or whatever. They're an invasive species that compete with the native fish.

I wonder how these morons would handle watching me stuffing chunks of carp in a pocket set, or impaling a nice bloody carp head on a fish stake?

They would have a stroke if they knew my method of "catching" carp.

Impaled on the end of a barbed arrow wink

I don't even know what a "unhooking mat is" sounds like something a wuss would use anyway

KeithC has a very good point too

Wolfie I just have fun with wimps like that. Mention that you basically trip over firearms rounding up your barbed hooks to go slay carpet and blow their little minds.

Give then something to talk about, mention that you might take a white girl with you next time and have some fun with it.

For a county that is lacking conservation programs they always have a lot to say about other countries short coming, the rest they just make up.

I didn’t realize people actually fished for them. We “hunt” them. And by hunt, you can guess there is no release. Always considered them a trash fish that destroyed my bream and bass beds. At least that’s what I was told.

Never had much interest in catching them on purpose even though they can pull a rod down well. I wouldn't mind learning a method to acquire a few as needed for bait though.

They have a use they are the best cage bait going everything eats them you name it I’ve caught it on carp steaks. I run a cheap Cummings meat saw then after freezing several sacks of carp I cut them onto palm sized stakes. Then bag them in bread bags until I need them 3-4 bags for a pail for the big jobs or break a bag in half for a smaller job.

Wife catches carp several times a week for her cats I get the extras for my freezers when coons were the main target she filled a freezer and half one summer. One day her and a friend caught over 30 in a few hours just behind the house.
