Car wash let them get a little surface it’s tough to get a even coat of rust the first try just dye/wax them is what I would do the critters will get the ready for the next dye job then.

The Bridger's I have 1.75, the jaws won't hardly rust at all. The rest of the trap has a good rust but the jaws are rust resistant. After power washing with degreaser and hanging out since last August. I plan to dye and wax them anyway. I have wax that is black, that's all I need. Critters won't care. I know a lady trapper that painted her traps hot pink and caught critters as well as anyone.
you're only allowed so many sunrises... I aim to see every one of them!

Best wishes and pictures on this site are like catchin a guys first coyote. The next time will be easier and in a few more attempts you can do it in the dark

I have reas many opinions on here that a coyote will be Leary of the smell of rust but I trap grazing country that is full of rusty fencing materials and bailer parts. I like a waxed trap because it is fast but as far as worrying that a coyote will be wary of the small of rust I do now

Maybe way out west in areas not frequented by humans odor control is a big thing but where I trap predators don't run from a slightly rusty trap at all.
