If you further your wine to sparkling wine (as champagne not from Italy) what do you use for bottles and corks to keep them from blowing out?

The Grolsch Glass Beer Bottles work well for sparkling mead and ginger ale. The glass doesn't explode and the corks stay locked in, even with all the pressure.

A friend of ours shot a cork from some ginger ale he made close to 100 feet in the air and caught it seconds later when it landed in his palm, without taking a step. He used a muselet, which is frequently called a champagne cage, to keep the corks in. He owns a small winery near Athens, Ohio.

Another friend had about a dozen out of two dozen bottles of sparkling mead explode or blow their corks. He switched to Grolsch style wine bottles and never had any more issues.

X2 on the Grolsch bottle. Be careful where you buy them from. Some are only decorative. Be sure to buy from a trusted home brew shop. I use them for a homemade pineapple soda that gets very carbonated.

I gave you a long answer over on the fermenters forum. I would not use Grolsch bottles personally, They are not designed for the kind of pressures that a true sparkling wine will produce. 6 atmospheres of pressure is the standard for Champagne when done correctly. Quickly, Champagne and true sparkling wine is 6 atmospheres which is almost 90psi. Beer is around 30psi or about 1/3rd the pressure.
