What are some of y'alls uses for them?

I stopped mowing a wet section of my backyard years ago and trees took over, some of which are mulberry. They are probably 25' high now and just covered up in berries again this year. I haven't ever done anything with them and was just wondering if anyone else has something they make that they like?

Jam, pies or just eat them. We have an abundant crop this year but with all the rain they don't have much flavor.

I've made 34 jars of Mulberry and Mulberry & blueberry jam this year. I also picked another 5# for some wine

I was thinking jam, that's what we do with our Blackberries.

How do you guys pick them, by hand or tarp?

I was thinking of laying a small tarp down under one of the limbs and shake it.

My wife made a berry pie with ones I picked in the woods. They make a great pie!

I don't care how nice the hand soap smells, you should never walk out of the restroom sniffing your fingers.

Don't have kids help pick if you want to do something with them. Every summer the kids declare they're going to get enough mulberries for a pie, but they come home with purple hands, feet, and mouths, and like 10 mulberries.

Jam is good but pies are great, if you can get the mixture right.
The juice content varies a bit. Just takes adjusting the corn starch for the juiceyness of the berries
It is also good in poundcake
I put on nitril gloves and pick by hand
Just don't like messing with the overripe ones and all the other carp that falls on the trap

Jam is good as well as fresh with a little milk and sugar. We never mess with the pilling off the little green stem.

Yes, we use a tarp to gather. I like using a long hook to reach the higher branches. Don't shake too hard, only hard enough to get the real ripe ones to fall. That way you avoid a lot of sticks and unripe berry's at sorting time.

Bring 20 pounds over and we will make some wine! You fill two five gallon buckets and find yourself 30 bottles. I'll do the rest! grin

Stuck a camera over some Mulberries just to see what eats them…apparently everything from deer to quail.

I like 'em best after the Squirrels and Deer have turned them into protein!

A river I fish has a place where a bunch of mulberry trees hang out over the water. When the ripe mulberries are dropping the carp gather there in large schools to eat them.

Eh...wot?

I’m gonna have a lot this year....they are still green. It’ll be a few weeks.

I can’t believe we’ve never had a bear climb the tree for berries. Two years ago, there was two grey fox in the tree one night eating berries.
