Hi all. Going to Salt Lake City and Jackson Hole then Yellowstone Park soon. Any ideas on what to see out that way. Just looking for ideas. Have a week with one day in Salt Lake City and one day in Jackson Hole Then 5 days in Yellowstone Park. I'll have a car just looking for some good places that people who live out there or people who was out there can tell me about. Thanks. Furman 50

We just spent Thursday and Friday in Yellowstone. We saw hundreds of bison and elk inside the park and more antelope than we could count east of there. We went in the west gate and stopped in a little town called Ennis MT on the way. It is a tourist type town but the sporting goods store had more guns and ammo than I’ve seen in one place In a long time. We just missed seeing a grizzly with 2 Cubs and a single grizzly. There was a line of cars and people heard the momma griz was there and everyone jumped out of there cars and ran up there. Dumb. Anyway most of the game was on the east side in Larmar Valley. We also saw black bear and a coyote that everyone thought was a wolf. Lol Have a great time.

Looks like he needs another year;-)

Of you can route thru the Faming Gorge. You will thank me if you do.

Why not go float/ "swim" in salt lake?
Swimming/ floating in the Dead Sea was awesome other than getting salt in scratches lol. I'm sure Salt Lake would be great too

Be sure you have lodging lined up ahead of time. 6 million people a summer go through Yellowstone. Any campsites inside the park have to be reserved a year in advance.

Be prepared that the town of Jackson will be very crowded with tourists and lots of traffic during summer. Probably the only liberal town in Wyoming. The Tetons are a must see, though.

Fossil Butte. See the museum. Can search for fossils in nearby private shale pits. Lots of fun. Lots of fossilized fish.

You Navy or Marine? About the only ones over there to float in the Dead Sea.

If you drive East out of the park ( after a couple days of tourists) towards Cody, at the East gate is the Pahaska Teepee campground. Buffalo Bills historic camp was there including a two story log home complete with hunting photos. Travel to Cody and take a day or two at the historic Cody Museum. Well worth it! Drive South out of there through Lander to historic South Pass. You can still see the wagon well ruts in the sage going over the hillside.

Just returned from Jackson, WY. Got very warm 84 degrees last Wed through Friday. REAL busy with people in the town, lots of traffic. We fly fished the headwaters of Lewis Lake. OUTSTANDING time. Jackson Hole Anglers was our guide. 2 people plus guide 6 hour trip. Great way to get away from crowds. Lakers and browns hitting leeches and copper john nymphs.

We stayed at the Rustic Inn, good place with easy walk into town. The Mercantile sells expensive tanned furs- western reds listing for 199.00 retail- yikes!

Sounds like your schedule is fairly tight. Just depends what you want to do. Go out to Antelope Island north of Salt Lake. Lots of bison, antelope, mule deer and other wildlife. You can drive out there over the causeway and get a good look at the great salt lake. Don’t go swimming. It’s really low right now, banks are muddy and there is a bit of a smell. Can get a 1 day fishing license and do some great fishing for cutthroat trout in the Logan River and tribs in Cache Valley (if you want more info let me know). Stop at Bear Lake and enjoy a raspberry shake and check out the lake. Fossil Butte was a good idea. Book a float trip on the Snake River below Jackson - lots of options between fishing out of drift boats to rafting the whitewater sections.

There is a private museum of military vehicles that is in Dubois, WY between Jackson Hole and Rawlins if your going out south gate. I've heard good things about and going to stop in July on our vacation.
