I have grandsons ages 9,8,7 and am looking at getting them binoculars for their birthdays. I'm thinking under $100.00 and waterproof or fog proof. I don't know if they can use adult size because of the size of their heads and so I'm coming to the best source for these types of things for recommendations.
tks, Gary j

I had a set of 8x32 buris that came with a full field scope several years ago. It was something I did not think I had a use for or would like. I was wrong once I had them I used them often. They were light years ahead of the compact one I had used before that. But they are larger by a long shot.

I'm going to check out auto focus, which I had years ago and they worked real well. If they still make them I think they would be a good option for they guys

I'd get them full size if they will fold enough for them to use them. It's amazing how fast 7 years old turns into 17 years old.

The fullfeild by Burris 8x32 is about right.
Look for comparable in Nikon.
X2 on the full-size.

Stay Away From Auto Focus! Worst gimmick in optics ever!

Neat little bino hack . Pick up a pair and hold them at arms length with the objective lens towards you. That little bright spot in the center of the black lens is the exit pupil. Pick the one that appears to be the roundest. This roundness is a sign of proper prism and lens alignment == less eye strain and better resolution.
Avoid the pairs where the “spots in each side “ resemble stop signs. Good luck.

And Stay Away From Auto Focus !!!

Vortex Diamondback 8 or 10X42. Great binos for the price.

I’d get him leupold and let him grow into them, you will be buying another set of bi-nocks soon , he will grow fast.
Leupold has several price ranges.
Never skimp on optics

If you go vortex, they will replace them free for life. As young as they are, they are more than likely to break them someday

Yeah IDK how I would ever beat purchasing anything Vortex from Acedemy- either one provides a lot of value in every product and stands behind them. I bought a compact pair of binos for right around 100 bucks and they outperform my 'good' field glasses. If Badlands makes a compact bino sheath / shoulder rig I might treat this unit to some fancy digs- that is how much I like them
