while the following quote also applies to us, it does more so to Canadians...

There’s also a gun in my truck more days then there’s not. Just got to make sure the gun isn’t visible and the doors are locked when I’m in the store shopping. No problem!

Even a pistol? I thought you subjects were not trusted with a pistol.

We can own pistols but you need a "Restricted Firearms" license. You need to take a whole separate training course to get them.
I do envy your guys' gun laws. Pretty soon we will only be allowed to have a .22 and maybe a 4-10 if our "Prime-minister" keeps crying and making laws over "mass-shootings" and banning "scary" guns like ar-15s. We can still own ar-18s, I guess they aren't as scary as a ar-15 is. Canada (the way it is right now) is a communist and socialist Country and there's no if and or buts about it.

You do that every day you drive a car.
Without a govt licence you dont go nowhere.Unless you claim to be a sovereign citizenLOL.

No one I know enjoys going to the DMV but I'd guess most folks understand why we issue a driver's license. It's not a partisan issue. Every human being should embrace all of the autonomy and sovereignty they can claim for themselves. Even though I might like you, I may not want you micro managing my life. Government even less so.

You guys have never owned a fine double barrel shotgun? You're missing out.

Everyone fight nicely now...

Ian Runkle has an excellent Youtube channel if you ever have any questions about your rights and/or obligations under the law in Canada. It can be dry (he presents case law regarding self defense, what constitutes a "weapon dangerous to the public peace", carrying knives, etc.)
He has done the research for you so you can spend a half hour watching instead of 8 hours reading.

As for our laws, I don't like them but they definitely could be worse. My wish list would be:
1. Eliminate classifications (prohibited, restricted, non-restricted) for all except fully automatic firearms which would require a special certification (similar to a US tax stamp)
2. Allow purchase, ownership and transport of pistols via a standard firearms license (we'll never lose the licensing regime here)
3. Allow open or concealed carry of a handgun via special licensing... no other criteria, you do the training and get the license, you can carry
4. NO REGISTRATION
5. NO banning of firearms based on their appearance or on public opinion (AR15 and others under the Order In Council)

I (apparently) disagree with most of the other Canadians on here, but I respect their opinion and understand where it comes from.

Just happy to be here.

These threads are funny.

I might order a gun today, get it in the mail.

Yes some laws are silly.

I can legally use s firearm to defend myself and property.

I wonder how much of his life warrior spends on YouTube. He must be a shareholder. grin

It's a tool here too. There is evil in the world and evil has no problems with going to get groceries or anywhere else. Dangerous freedom or peaceful slavery. On your driver license example in the U.S. driving, is not in our bill of rights.

Just because you guys justify the restrictions does not make them anything but what they are really restricted laws.

Federalist 46

Besides the advantage of being armed, which the Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation, the existence of subordinate governments to which the people are attached, and by which the militia officers are appointed, forms a barrier against the enterprizes of ambition, more insurmountable than any which a simple government of any form can admit of.

Too bad Canada doesn’t have the second amendment. Same thing may happen there as in Australia and New Zealand. The flick of the pen by the higher ups and in a flash, there goes their rights. No second amendment to fall back on but at the mercy of the dictator leading that country.

So next thing you'll say is we don't need a weapon in church too right? Sadly mass shooting occur in Walmart's churches grocery stores or where ever else people gather. Since we shouldn't live in fear maybe we should bury our heads in the sand as well right bud?

I carry a handgun to church every time.

Our pastor is from Texas. Once when the issue came up about parishioners and guns, he said, we should want our churchgoers to carry guns to church. He may carry one himself, I don't know. He doesn't advertise it if he does.

I don't care how nice the hand soap smells, you should never walk out of the restroom sniffing your fingers.

Let me clarify the differences as embodied in the Second Amendment. Something most on both sides of the border fail to understand.

But let me back up with this opening phrase, We believe that all men are endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights.

Note the bold, 2A guarantees nothing nor grants anything it merely recognizes and prohibits any intrusion upon something all free men are born with.

You see we Americans believe to the core of our being that every soul that draws breath has independent and innate sovereignity as given by the Supreme authority. That belief extends to all of mankind, even canucks. All legitimate governance is a compact made between sovereigns and serve but one purpose to preserve the liberty of the individual.

The British Imperial system, and others, long ago replaced that with Divine Right that emplaced all sovereignity in a sovereign. The effect of which is that most of the world's populace have never recognized and accepted their sacred birthright even as the obvious devolution of Devine Right waned.

It is truly sad to see sentient beings without the spark and spirit of their Creator in them.
