Not for covid but for methane SMH.
A European company made a mask for cows that reduce methane and give GPS. I'm sure California will be all over it like flies on cow fecal matter

What stupidity. If we are worried about cow farts we better worry about people farts. Everyone farts.

Cows burp while chewing their cud, if they didn't burp they'd bloat with gas and die quickly.

Anyone who thinks cow farts have caused that big scary global warming has got to be very short sighted and be working on the assumption that bison weren't farting 150 years ago.

And there were many more of them in North America than there are cows now

Modern dairy farmers pay a considerable amount of money per cow each year for heat detection, setting cows up for heat cycles and breeding so that is a huge value to a farmer with a big or small herd. The GPS not so much as most cows are confined now. $80 per year with a 4 year life is actually fairly economical for the farmer and there would be cost savings to offset that in other areas. The methane reduction would be an added bonus as well.
Depending upon at what age the masks are put on would determine how many a cow would need in a lifetime. For most dairy cows they calve the first time at roughly 24 months and have a calf every 13-15 months after that. The average cow today does not make 4 years of productive life after the 1st calf.

You are thinkin of dairy cows who have been bred for milk production. Once you travel a bit you will see lots of commercial cow herds where the females are putting a lot more calves on the ground in a lifetime.

Of course there are exceptions, I remember a guy who spent a bunch of money on pot loads of what he thought were young cows coming out of the sandhill and eastern slope regions. I was day wagin for the vet who had to break the bad news to the guy: young is a relative term if the fine sands have worn the mouth short prematurely

Yes I am and the dairy cows are the cows concentrated closer to larger human populations and are fed diets that can create way more methane due to diet type and amount. Similar situations in the world like New Zealand, Europe and India. I can see that range type beef production will have less benefit and most likely much less desire to participate, which is OK by me if these prove to be good tools for those who milk 30-40 million cows worldwide.

Bblwi, What about the small time rancher who is barely getting by. $80 a head to find a missing cow is cheap in the end but for the upfront cost not so much.

Then you consider will the masks shorten the life of a cow? Who knows.

So how are cows going to graze while wearing a mask?

Thats what I was taught in school ,and that's what my old encyclopedias still says . But funny thing ,,,, last time I googled it all the fact sources said about 20,000 000 more cows in North America than historic buffalo herds . Just a little more proof that digital facts cant be trusted if its anything remotly political.
