Doctors around here recommend a shingles shot at age 50.

I walked into a CVS pharmacy two years ago and asked to receive the Shingrix injection. When they asked if I had active Shingles, I said nope (I lied). I had full blown episode on my arms and chest. And I had incredible relief in two weeks. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh. Booster months later.

I sat in a recliner for 3 days. Wasn't able to get up enough strength to even go get a meal. I did make it to the bathroom a couple of times though.
Was the sickest I've ever been. Not a joke. Started with terrible pain in my eye. My eye doctor correctly diagnosed it but used medical terms that I didn't know meant "shingles". Didn't realize until 2 days later that was what he was talking about. If I had gone right to my regular doctor, she would have given me a pill that would have reduced the severity. But after 72 hours, it's too late, it has to run its course. I really wish my eye doctor had said "It's shingles - go see your primary physician right now." That would have saved me a couple of miserable weeks.
Was out of work for 2 weeks. Infected scabs covered the entire left side of my head and scalp by the time it was done. It's probably been 3 or 4 years and the nerves in my head and face still tingle sometimes.
Anybody 50 years old qualifies for the vaccine. GET THE VACCINE.

I passed chicken pox to my youngest daughter when I had them. Sucked really bad. Got my shots since.

My older sister and my mother both had shingles. I remember mom saying it was worse than giving birth. I figure that's gotta be pretty bad so I got both my Shingrix last year.

Don't be surprised if you have some lingering side effects. I still have some numbness is small spots. Some people have phantom aches for years.
If I understand correctly only those that had chicken pox can get shingles. Those that were immunized can't get it. Check with your doc.
If available get the shot.

I still have scars all down my left leg and some nerve damage. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.
