Any one have a recommendation for a cheaper frame pack? Would ideally be able to hold a gun or bow.

We use Eberlestock packs. They aren’t cheap but darn good!

The new frame packs designed for hunters are really nice. Eberlestock, Mystery Ranch, Kuiu, Stone Glacier, and Alps Outdoorz all make quality frame packs for backpack hunters. Most will allow you to pack your rifle on the frame/pack either directly or with an add on rifle holder. None are cheap. I bit the bullet and bought a Mystery Ranch Beartooth 80 and am very happy with my choice. It packs my rifle on the side (either side) and I can carry more weight in it at age 66 than I have ever been able to carry in my previous 50 years of backpacking. It also collapses down to a usable day pack size so I don't need a separate day pack for hunts from a backcountry camp.

I bought an Army Molle pack.

I have one just like the alps pack but the bag says winchester on it. I got it at the flea market for $15. Has a foldable shelf on it. I will not put my bow or gun in my pack. Watched my friend trip down a hill with his pack on and roll. I put an S hook from a bunjee cord on my shoulder strap and put it through the gun sling loop. I still put a hand on the gun anyway but it takes weight off carrying it. Just look at the weight of the packs some are heavy. You wouldnt think an extra couple pounds makes a difference but it does.

I’ve personally used the Alps Commander z frame with backpack bag. Has held up pretty good ,converts easily to the Frame to carry out game or equipment Ect. There’s certainly better packs out there but at a significant raise in price, it has held up to multiple trips with entire Quartered out whitetail/mule deer, simply pressure washed each time that day no smell/stains

For a drop hunt in Alaska I found an old Kelty frame backpack on Craig's list for about $10. They were the bee's knees back in the 70's and are plenty strong. I upgraded the shoulder straps and the waist belt.

Might be tough to find, but worth a try. Carring a gun or bow on it would take a little custom rigging.
