They arent fun! Stupid infusion that suppresses immune system. They werent kidding-shingles arent a joke. Probably the worst part is i cant go near my 1 month old daughter. Mine are just in my armpit-heard stories of them on an entire back. Man, i feel for anyone that had to go thru that.

Doctors around here recommend a shingles shot at age 50.

Know people that have had them on their face (mouth, eyes, etc) so be glad it is just your arm pits.

From what I know and have seen they are no fun

I walked into a CVS pharmacy two years ago and asked to receive the Shingrix injection.
When they asked if I had active Shingles, I said nope (I lied).
I had full blown episode on my arms and chest.
And I had incredible relief in two weeks.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhh.

Booster months later.

grin

Wife gets them once in a while , pretty painful. She started taking L-Lysine 1000mg capsules and it starts drying up pretty quickly.

I sat in a recliner for 3 days. Wasn't able to get up enough strength to even go get a meal. I did make it to the bathroom a couple of times though.

Was the sickest I've ever been. Not a joke. Started with terrible pain in my eye. My eye doctor correctly diagnosed it but used medical terms that I didn't know meant "shingles". Didn't realize until 2 days later that was what he was talking about. If I had gone right to my regular doctor, she would have given me a pill that would have reduced the severity. But after 72 hours, it's too late, it has to run its course. I really wish my eye doctor had said "It's shingles - go see your primary physician right now." That would have saved me a couple of miserable weeks.

Was out of work for 2 weeks. Infected scabs covered the entire left side of my head and scalp by the time it was done. It's probably been 3 or 4 years and the nerves in my head and face still tingle sometimes.

Anybody 50 years old qualifies for the vaccine. GET THE VACCINE.

Got the shingles shot when it first came out, the the new one (Shingrex?) about five years ago.

Kids now get a chicken pox shot. Does that mean they will never get shingles later in life?

I passed chicken pox to my youngest daughter when I had them. Sucked really bad. Got my shots since.

I got the single shingles shot about 11 years ago. My oncologist said that receiving chemo treatments would increase the chance of getting shingles, so he made sure I received the shot. I got my first Shingrix shot a couple months ago and am scheduled to receive the booster next month.
My grandfather had shingles, and I saw how miserable it made him feel. I didn't want any part of it.

I received my first round last month. Will get my second in about another month. Shingles are no fun for sure.

After the first two shots, are annual boosters needed or repeated any time in the future? My wife and I were just discussing the subject an hour or so ago. Any side effects?

My arm was sore for about 5 days. Shots don't usually make my arm sore for that long, but that one sure did.

Well mine blew up overnight. Instead of just armpit theyre on my bicep, tricep, running up my back toward my neck and on my chest. Best feelin in the world is standing with a lukewarm shower sprayin on it. Right now theyre insanely itchy mixed with pain every now and then. Its weird how the sensations have changed throughout the past few days. Sometimes its intense burning on the rash and others its deep muscle aches all over the area outside the rash. Sometimes its both.

You may be convincing me to get the vaccine.

Hang in there!

My arm was very sore. And the shot kicked my butt for 24 hrs. Very tired. But I would rather experience that. Then full blown shingles

Have a friend who has shingles in his eyes and face. He had leukemia and a bone marrow transplant before chemo. Had to receive all immunizations again. Such a shame that he got shingles after all he had gone through.

My older sister and my mother both had shingles. I remember mom saying it was worse than giving birth. I figure that's gotta be pretty bad so I got both my Shingrix last year.

Don't be surprised if you have some lingering side effects.
I still have some numbness is small spots.
Some people have phantom aches for years.

If I understand correctly only those that had chicken pox can get shingles. Those that were immunized can't get it.
Check with your doc.

If available get the shot.

I still have scars all down my left leg and some nerve damage. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.
