Didn't want to derail the Beef prices thread. Anyway, just for kicks, I made a run through a Sams Club here in New York today. Center cut pork chops were $3.84/# and a butt roast was $2.98/#. Two weeks ago, I bought 5 pork butts at $1.38/# and 24# of center cut bone-in chops for $2.06/#. Our local grocery also had country style bone-in ribs for $1.18/#, picked up about 30# of those too. Glad the freezer is full!

We buy from a local hog farmer here best pork we can get lean and tender very healthy pork it’s cut the way we want it at the local locker best sausage around the price goes up and down we just ride the wave it’s worth it. They even drop off at the locker for us sweet deal.

Same here. The meat is better tasting than store bought too.

Labor is hard to find to keep the lines full and running for hogs and beef. Domestic demand is up as is the export demand and numbers are down due to the 15 month ago COVID crunch where not only were fed hogs euthanized but sows were shipped as some did not know when the market would return. Now with corn and soybeans very high and feeding a fed hog feed is 70% of the cost many farmers with acres are cutting back as they can make more profit at $6.50 corn and $14. beans then selling hogs for $100 per CWT. Also as the corn and beans went up and the prices have risen rapidly a lot of old sows hit the market as they were more profitable to slaughter then to breed and feed. Also countries like China which buys about 25-30% of US hogs will try to buy more pork as it is less costly to pay more for processed pork then to buy and ship metric tons of corn and beans.
If China removed their penalty tariffs they still enforce our hog prices here would go up even more near term.
