Crawl-out on the side of a hut. About as close to 100% success rate as you can get, if legal in your state.

I have to trap thru the ice, so I pick the smaller feeder huts and push-ups. I'll leave the 4' high houses to the youngsters.
Back in SE Nebraska the rats used bank dens so the 110's worked well in the runs.
#1s in a creek are great where they climb out of the water but I haven't seen that situation for years.

If youre in an area with a lot of rats funnel traps in strategic places are hard to beat.

Scent mound set, or an artificial slide with a little bit of lure

Set it under a toilet. Works every time for me!

I like my bank rats with a 110 right in the bank entrance. Or footholds on the feed beds.

Side of the hut, on a feeder or toilet. There is no best. I set every spot, and cream the place using a variety of sets/locations. I use a few colony traps where applicable, and a few floats as well. What ever it takes.

When you rake up a trash set, and bury a half of a rat carcass in it, and set the water side of that manmade pocket, in featureless terrain out on the bog, to catch the coon and mink, half of those sets will produce a rat as well.
