I found this last weekend and thought it was very cool. It is from an Air Force survival rifle. Full and unopened no less. I can't help but shake my head at the "instructions" on it.

I believe the rifle you speak of is a savage. It quailifies as a SBR. Be cool to have one.

I doubt those fellas back then would pay much attention to that warning. Good round though for the job though, could take most game even deer with it.

So as long as I eat the enemy, it's okay, right?

We burned tens of thousands of 22 hornet rounds from survival kits over the years. I always thought it was a waste, but what did I know. Like the old saying goes - "Don't worry about the horse being blind, just load the cart".

I'm sure the warning is because of the Geneva Convention and the issue with soft point ammo. All military ammo for use against combatants must be FMJ.

Was this because of expiration date or taking these guns out of service?

Somewhere there is a guy with a few of those guns on display wishing he could get a few of those tins

160user Neat find. Have you ever seen any of these? They are made of wood with a leather handle.

I had a couple of those I bought at a gun show back in the 80s when I bought one of the new H&R handy rifles in 22 hornet, ant remember what I paid for them back then but know it was cheap which is why I bought it, like many another thing I wish I hadn’t shot it all up and had kept it, o well 20/20 hindsight and all that

I have one of those and my brother has several picked up a long time ago at gun shows in the 70/80s era, I actually like them better then the metal ones for storing things in, not ammo though that I prefer the metal ones.

Still see them now and then at flea markets and gun shows but there no longer as cheap as they once were that’s for sure

All same era but with different handles leather, metal, and cotton straps, I am told all were from WW1, I think it all depends on who was making the boxes as to what handle they got

nightlife From the research I have done on them they are from WW1. I bought those two off a auction. They cost about twice what a metal can does. I would pay that for more of them. Do yours have the cut from the bottom up one one side? Both mine do and it looks like it is factory to me. It looks like I see it in the bottom picture, but can not tell for sure. Do you see them is different sizes?

2 of them do 1 doesn’t

If you got them for only double what a metal can cost you got a heck of a deal, the last ones I seen were in the 80/90 dollar range

I have seen a few in other sizes mostly the ones That were for 50 cal and about double the size of the standard 50 cal metal can, would like to get 1 or 2 but they are costly when I see them, have also seen a few of the 50 cal that hold 500 rounds

Actually the Hague Convention prohibits the use of soft point bullets in warfare.
