Ok figured it would be best to come ask the experts here. Long story short ever since we got rid of the local barn cats the barn and pack rats have been coming back. I was trying to get them out side with rat trap boxes before they got inside but seems the barn rats just don't wanna play.the pack rats where pretty easy but my trail cams sho these barn rats will just waltz up to the box ( new old big hole small hole no hole ) sniff the bait ( peanut butter bacon greases, dog food, pieces of fruit, jerky )and go in about their business. Not sure what's going on here or where to go. Can't use posion. At least I'd really prefer not to if possible. I'm thinking of getting some if those little RGB conibers and setting them over the entrances I find but other than that I'm kinda at a loss . Mabye I should try some of the good ADC bait possibly?

I set lightly camouflaged #1 jumps in front of any holes I find and they seem to blunder right into them. Often suit casing them across the chest. When in doubt, blind set them.

Any particular reason for the traps to be in a box? I try to hide the traps in blind corners or pinch points along travel ways. Try fruit based baits as a change up.

Wolfy this my go to for barn rats. If non targets are an issue I cover with a milk crate. Rats go right through the crate and get caught. BMI #55 mag. Trigger bent this way they put their feet on the wires to feed. Game over.

Rats have what's called "New object shyness". May take a while for them to get used to the traps. What are they eating now? That's what you need for bait, and try to clean up whatever it is.

I’ve been looking at these lately. Kinda steep in price and I have my doubts.

I don’t do much rat trapping though. There is a video on YouTube demonstrating it. I was mainly looking at the raccoon one.

Have you tried a bucket of water and cover the water with seeds. Chipmunks jump right in.

once you go trap, you never come back

I've caught them overnight and have waited ten days to catch them. Snap traps, no.2 coilsprings used as body grips and lately small cage traps that have been effective when set at a feeding sight with feed removed and used for bait.
