I spent most of the day mowing the lawn.
I got myself a seniors' GPS. Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination, it tells me why I wanted to go there.

Seems like who was responsible got mixed up and confused by a large present of fomerslaves and descendants. It seems they think it was done by the other party.

So we are taking down statues that remind them of slavery and creating a holiday to remind them of slavery? Okay. It was a slow day for me.

slaves were not freed by the presidents executive order (emancipation proclamation) They were not freed untill a constitutional ammendment 2 years after the executive order. I have no problem celebrating the freeing of American slaves. Should have been a holiday a long time ago. Be a cold day in that hot place when I celebrate a president assuming authority he does not have. https://www.ourdocuments.gov/doc.php?flash=false&doc=40The 13th amendment, which formally abolished slavery in the United States, passed the Senate on April 8, 1864, and the House on January 31, 1865. On February 1, 1865, President Abraham Lincoln approved the Joint Resolution of Congress submitting the proposed amendment to the state legislatures. The necessary number of states ratified it by December 6, 1865. The 13th amendment to the United States Constitution provides that "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction." In 1863 President Lincoln had issued the Emancipation Proclamation declaring “all persons held as slaves within any State, or designated part of a State, the people whereof shall then be in rebellion against the United States, shall be then, thenceforward, and forever free.” Nonetheless, the Emancipation Proclamation did not end slavery in the nation. Lincoln recognized that the Emancipation Proclamation would have to be followed by a constitutional amendment in order to guarantee the abolishment of slavery
Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

Talked to the kids about it. We talked about how America rocks, and always has, but that doesn't mean we're perfect. We talked about the stain of slavery and why disgusting people partook in it, and about how freeing the slaves was the biggest leap in freedom our country has ever taken.
We also talked about natural rights, and how while the slaves were "freed", that nobody ever had a right to own them in the first place, and as such, the emancipation proclamation wasn't actually necessary.. The slaves had a natural right to not be someone else's property and to not be forced into labor, and would have been free to fight such things as they saw fit, regardless of the laws of the time.

I worked like a slave !! I doubt it. I bet you got paid for your work, nobody whipped you, and nobody was gonna cut off your toes if you ran away. And I bet nobody sold your kids as breeding stock either. Same goes for every living person in America , Einstein What gives ?
