To start off a summer week on Sunday, here's a bit of Charles Spurgeon, who over a century ago was already a gifted preacher at age twenty in a blue-collar suburb of industrial London, whose words still ring true today; No subject of contemplation will tend more to humble the mind, than thoughts of God... But while the subject humbles the mind, it expands it. He who often thinks of God, will have a larger mind than the man who simply plods around his narrow globe... The most excellent study for expanding the soul, is the science of Christ, and Him crucified, and the knowledge of the Godhead in the glorious Trinity. Nothing will so enlarge the intellect, nothing will magnify the whole soul of man, as a devout, earnest, continued investigation of the great subject of the Deity.

Blessings y'all!
Mark

AMEN!

"My feeling is this, give him plenty of time, plenty of birds, and a little direction, and he'll hunt his heart out for me. That's all I ask."

Isn't it a wonderful fact that the Creator, through Whom all things are made, crafted each of us humans made in His image, with a mind far advanced over all the other creatures on earth.
We can use our minds to rationalize all things far beyond any other animal.
We can also use our minds to feel emotion far beyond any other animal.
Thus, we're able to worship God far beyond every other animal.

Pretty ingenious set up put in place by the infinite Creator of all things visible and invisible.
Blessed first day of the week to all.

Mark

Mr. June, did you even get to sit in a service with John R Rice preaching? I must have been about 8 or maybe even 10 years old and I still remember that man at the pulpit. Don’t know why this post made me think of it, sorry if it takes away from it. I just remember that “old man” having us turn to scripture in the Bible and him quoting it word for word while never taking his eyes off the congregation. I thought he was blind, but later learned he could recite the Bible word for word. I know he died in 1980 and I was 12 then. When we went I remember Dad telling us we may never see or hear this Preacher again as his health was failing.

I have several books by John R. Rice, he was a solid preacher. He put out a publication called The Sword of the Lord. I have several books by Spurgeon as well. It's getting harder to find books that you can leaf through physical pages, everything seems to have gone digital.

WB, No sir. I never had the pleasure but I've read quite a bit about his life and devotion to God's Kingdom. Wonderful learnings.
If you like memorization of Scripture, here a link to a chapel we had this year at DTS, whereby Marquis Laughlin preached the entire Book of John! End to end. Simply gifted, and there's no other way to describe it. I know for sure that the story of the Bible comes to life when we take out the grammatical stops, comma, chapters, verses and simply read it!
There are few on this planet like Marquis. He recites other whole biblical books also.
