That should do it. Will you pre make your holes ?
Or just have that as a trap line tool .

You probably have better luck than I do, when I use to pack a
Weed eater for making snaring trails.
I would leak gas all over.
So I quit packing it around.

Why do I get the image of a stuck bit and a trapper spinning like a whirligig? LOL

I just got it and put on. Had time to dig one hole before heading out to cut wheat. Will use it on some test sets until trapping season. If no adverse effects I'm planning on pre drilling holes as much as possible. If not I have other uses for it. It will dig some dirt I know that. It's geared down so it can be run pretty slow. Watched a trapping video were a guy was using a gas powered digger up in Iowa or Illinois I thinking and was catching 100+ coyotes I believe.

The BT 45 Stihl augers are popular with some guys mainly I think because it has a clutch that will slip so you don't break your wrist if you hit a root or the bit gets stuck.

Round up works pretty good for making trails.

Does it spin the correct way?

Won't the gas/oil stink have an effect on your catch? Might consider drilling the holes now, way ahead of season.

It's got a gear reduction so it turns clock ways.

Yes the clutch on the saw drives it.

We will find out. I do some lure testing year around and have some no miss spots to try it on. I figure I guy will want to get the bar oil flushed out real good but as I stated previously I watched a guy on a video running a stihl bt 45 auger catch 100+ in a week or two. He was drilling the holes when he set the traps...??? Figured once the bar oil is clean the saw shouldn't be different than the bt 45....
Try to decide whether to flush bar oil out with coyote pee or skunk essence

But does a chainsaw clutch kick it out of gear if the chain gets stuck.

I've only tried one hole so far, no rocks or roots but ground is dry and hard as concrete. I was pleasantly surprised how little torque was transferred to the hands. I was worried about it. I'll try it in some roots and rocks soon and give an update

That's a good idea, never thought of it.
I get by now with 4 wheeler trails.
Just set them when the ranchers are done irrigation for the year.

Does the gearbox have a reverse? If not, roots are really going to be fun. One of the features of the Stihl BT-45 is the ability to reverse.

A good trapper buddy now passed on, bought one of those deals a few years back and used it a couple hours and found that in our ground it near sprained his wrists to the point he sold it. Too many rocks, clay and roots in much of his trapping area just wasn't practical. In your gumbo Seth it may work well in some areas. When it grabs a rock or two better practice letting go and watchout for the grab and spin which can hit your jewels then you will say, that's enough. grin

that's funny, Bob!

I remember one time when we had the PTA rondy in Washington Co...

a lure maker from the great white north tried to give an impromptu demo, and promptly about jarred his teeth loose when his first hammer-strike struck our "soil"...

Well I'm about 30 holes in so far. Drilled around a couple elm trees, drilled holes in my gravel driveway and went out and dug rock in the pasture. Hasn't caught and torqued yet. If the point gets through it, it has dug so far. Even waded into the lilac bush and dug a couple there. Been actually surprised it actually hasn't caught and put any torque on my hands at all so far. Worse that happened is it screwed itself under one big root by an elm tree and I had to pull a fair amount to get it out. Time will tell but so far I'm quite pleased. Almost wishing I would have bought a bigger auger. I'll post when I think I'm close to a hundred holes dug. Might be into trapping season though.
