Soooo my truck is acting a fool again smirk Dagblasted tail lights wont turn off now so I gotta jump it every time I wanna go check a camera or something. That or the left blinker will just randomly cur on and just start blinking like crazy I'm already looking at getting a new transmission for it and figure I might as well see if I can get it rewired. It's a 90 D21 so not a ton of stuff compared to newer vehicles as far as computers and such. Was just curious if anyone has had one re wired and how much it ran them.
Thanks

Well what app be was I had a rat get in and chew up the wiring harness where it goes into the truck cab exposing alot of wires and only chewing through one. I was already getting about $1200 worth of work done to the cooling system brakes ect so I asked if they could try to fix that which they said they would try. So I think something didn't quite get fixed properly. Thinking it would be a better idea to just get it re done and know out any possible problems in one go.

Find another identical make and model and mark everything as you go it’s really not a big deal, everything has its place on the loom mark the extra plugs with a X so you don’t waste time looking for a option that’s not there.

Not all looms are the same like 4WD VS 2 WD. I did a Mazda and Ranger bed swap same frame the taillight looms were different. See if you can get a strip light that works off of your trailer plug that might be the easy fix.

If ONLY one wire was exposed then it could be other issues or a bad fix. Maybe a ground or something simple. BEFORE I go to the expense of a wiring harness I would find a GOOD mechanic that deals with wiring. Sometimes there is a mechanic at shops that are the go to guy for that type of thing. Let them have a look see and get their advice first.

Sounds like a bad ground. Might be the brake switch like cotton said. Bad ground (brake switch) make lights do really strange stuff. Before I paid somebody I would check those rodent chewed wires. Just match the colors. Get rid of any but connecters and use solder and shrink tubing to make good never have any more trouble connections. Run a wire from the negative post on your battery to the tail light bulb sockets making sure you have a good ground. If all that fails then pay somebody.

If you're having a ton of electrical gremlins, there's a chance they're all related to one issue.... something like a dirty ground, loose/corroded wire at fuse block, etc. Diag whatever is easiest, and you may find the fix to the whole problem. In any case, fixing the various electrical issues is usually cheaper and easier than installing a complete new harness.

What Jerry said. Bought a burnt 74 F250 custom turned it into a 78 XLT. lol
Ended up having to take the loom apart cause the turn signals worked the high/low beams like a cop car. And the HE Ignition wanted to melt the P wire from the switch to the regulator. Changed a couple wires and the ignition brain an no more problem. It was a test of my patience tracing wires with an ammeter ohmmeter though.

Wolfdog, if you have comprehensive insurance the rodent damage may be covered. My wife had a rat chew up her transmission harness and short out her antilock break board, and Allstate paid for it.

If they did cover it, On a 30+ year old truck, they will total it and give actual cash value at best. If you intend to take to a shop for a technician to repair, don't fool with it first. Most good technicians will charge more after you fiddle with it. If you do any wire repair, Add a 10 or 12 gauge ground wire from cab to engine block, then another from cab to truck bed. Make sure cab is grounded to engine and bed is grounded to cab or engine. I seen a lot of crazy electrical issues from spliced in trailer plugs and spliced in aftermarket radios or CB's.

I have no intention of messing with it honestly. I'm not a fan of mechanic work much less a fan of electrical. I'd rather pay somone who know what their doing to do a good job and just fix eveything over patching here patching there on my to have it screw up on me when I'm in the woods with no help.

Something else I've been looking into , there's one place in two that supposed to be really good I've been meaning to take pictures and go up there and ask.

Seen grounds mentioned a couple times. Frame as well as battery, seen them do some crazy stuff. Good luck

I'm waiting on a new dash harness for my Chevelle. It was $440 if I recall. I'm real excited to get to pull the dash back out......
