Used to catch a few spotted gar on trotlines. Almost always DOA, I figure they are one of those that has to keep moving to get water over the gills or some other sort of reason they die quickly on a fixed hook.
But come heat of the summer it was nothing to find them stacked up like cordwood in the back end of sloughs just hanging out just under the surface.

You might check out lake Sam Rayburn. These were photographed May 27th. and were taken by bows. They measured 7'8", 8'3", and 6'8" supposedly. Pretty impressive. Should make your 100 pound mark I would think.

Good God! What absolute beasts these fish are. Shoot a big 10 point buck, or one of these big fish.............hands down, I'd rather catch one of them the size of these.....rod/reel or arrow.

White River in Arkansas below town of Clarendon used to have plenty - 75 years ago when I was growing up there. I wouldn't know how it is now.

Reintroduced to Allegheny River years back. Not sure the species.
Biggest I've caught was around three feet.
Bass pro guys are just thrilled.
I think they are hideous lol.

Im not anti bow fishing in any way but I have to believe that since it's gotten so popular that it's definitely hurt the big gar population down south.

Not in Texas ... we went from no limit to one a day ... dang gar everywhere now ... they need to be killed out a lot .... gear wrecking catfish killing pieces of crap lol

.. next time I run lines I’ll try to remember to take some pics of what they do to 6 lb catfish ... they just leave a head with a shredded mess behind it on the hook. Losing quite a few to them last couple years

Insert profound nonsense here

Keep talking that stuff, Savell, and don't be the least bit surprised if this fat old yankee is suddenly parked on your front porch with a case or three of Lonestar to use as negotiation/bribery fodder!
