Putting in culvert crossings in the big pasture on the Missouri River breaks today with the brother in law don’t take much to wash them out, some you never find. Nice breeze helped early on but it was warm after lunch.

I was surprised at one place we put in a culvert and covered it with dirt in a shallow flow of water maybe a few inches deep, when I went back later it looked like a good size bluegill heading back into the cattails. It’s fed by a artisan well so it may stay wet during a drought I might of slowed the flow a bit before I finished. We moved a big steel culvert that had what looked like muskrat holes under it leading to a worn down trail.

Interesting that you have culverts disappear, is the river fairly close or do they get across property lines or just gone?

They wash out the water comes from the higher ground in the way of flash floods, where I trap cats the guy had a huge culvert you could drive a truck through tha was washed a long way from where he placed it.

Is that the Missouri river way back in the distance?

In Mexico they used dirt bikes, lol. He said wherever the horses can’t get, the dirt bikes can.

They put bales out or horses and 4 wheelers in the big pastures that pasture is a section with a few parcels attached to it. I always wondered the same thing about the Black Hills leases in the forest.

The hills are nice and green yet. You must be catching some rain up that way. They can turn brown in a hurry though.

Jerry....

Like a great friend told me one time on a Nevada coyote hunt, as we were rolling around a very generous sheep rancher's spread.... "this guy lives like a king every day". He also understood the reality of the job, but it was a nice comment.

You live in a sweet spot.

I bet you always have some wind. Being a southern Indiana boy I'm use to more trees and few places you can see further than 800 yards

You can see a long way out here without the culverts it’s tough to get around and the cattle don’t like crossing the muddy creeks until they need to, the spring wells keep the creeks muddy. It looks like nothing is out there but it’s full of wildlife.

Lots of wind but you get used to it and work around it when you can.

Isn't the Missouri Breaks supposed to have great hunting of all kinds?
