President Biden: Second Amendment Had Limits from Day One

President Joe Biden suggested the Second Amendment has had limits from day one, during his Wednesday speech on crime and gun violence.

“The Second Amendment from the day it was passed limited the type of people who onw a gun and what type of weapon you could own,” Biden said.

“You couldn’t buy a cannon,” he added.

Biden said:

Those who say the blood of patriots and all that stuff about how we’re going to have to move against the government,…well the tree of liberty is not watered with the blood of patriots…If you think you need have weapons to take on the government you need F-15s and maybe some nuclear weapons.

He concluded the point by saying, “The point is there has always been the ability to rationally limit the type of weapon that can be owned and who can own it.”

On April 8, 2021, Biden said that “no amendment is absolute.” His focus then, as now, was the Second Amendment, and he did not elaborate on whether there are exceptions. Whether, for instance, 19th Amendment is absolute.

He said a person from Chicago spoke so that shows how off target anything related to new laws will matter. Just smoke and mirrors nothing more.

The reason why there weren't many privately owned cannons were 1) they were expensive, and 2) the logistics involved in moving, shooting one. Good luck Joe bringing in all the weapons you want banned. You'll probably need extra help...

He also said previous laws helped deter crime like the assault weapons ban. Hahaha numerous studies say that's false.

He also said guns used in crimes are bought legally. People in Baltimore go to other cities to buy them hahaha I highly doubt most are bought legally.

it was litigated several times when cities and towns tried to prohibit cannons ,even after the civil war private cannon ownership was deemed legal and prohibitions were struck down

owning a cannon remains legal even today.

even breach loading cannon were in existence the last time the cannon ban was stuck down.

the really sickening part is the fact checking webs sites are trying to play that while they can not find any standing prohibition on cannon that it was not private ownership .

He was wrong about canons but right that the 2nd has limits. Its plain simple language, not written for the lawyers who have twisted it up, but twisted they have. Now that is an indisputable fact. Uh. Danny, that would have been in my Grandfathers time. By your logic if every law abiding citizen gun owner was a NRA member the second amendment would already be repealed.
