If people vote based on personality vs being qualified to do the job, are those people really qualified to vote? These type of people should not step into a voting booth. Just sayin.

I completely agree. I could care less about personality with politicians. It ain't like I'm ever gonna be stuck in an elevator with them. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't care to be around Trump more than a few minutes, but I'd vote for him again in a heartbeat. Voting based on personality doesn't make any sense mm Agree I personally know Trump, I worked for him for over 2 years till I just couldn’t take having to deal with him anymore, but I voted for him twice and would again

Only land owners over the age of 21 should be allowed to vote. Our founders wrote the voting law that way for very good reasons.
Keith No taxation without representation-landowners can shoulder the extra tax burden.

Keith Didn't we fight a war partly over being taxed without representation? If we went to such a system, would you then agree to not tax the non voters at all? As in no sales tax, no income tax, no pitman-robertson tax, no gas tax, no gift tax, no capitol gains tax, etc etc etc....would you agree that if you're not allowed to vote, you don't have to pay any taxes of any sort? (Keep in mind there are plenty of rich people living in apartments who own no land, and plenty of poor people who do own land) Would you also agree that the age of majority, to join the military, sign contracts, buy a gun, etc etc should be 21?

I think in an ideal republic, the peoples representatives would be elected by mature adult voters that are makeing positive contribution to the good of the country. There has always been a problem defining a line or an age limit for both.

Unfortunately and to the detriment of America that's not how our system works. Anybody no matter how much they hate America "For Which It Stands" can vote to undermine our republic in any manner or fashion they chose. it's our strength and our weakness as a nation. We actually give them enough rope to hang themselves and us in this process. That's the truth.

It worked for a couple hundred years because the majority of people understood and appreciated what is was that made this country great. Apparently it was our education system that failed us.

I've always thought that voters should have a MANDANTORY 3 year military service, or 6 year full time public service duty to EARN the right and PRIVALAGE of voting, and to run for public office.

Not so much to vote as to EARN full citizenship, so as to understand just what our freedoms mean, and their value. Why do the politicians and the media get so thrilled when only 25% of the population can get off their back pockets to go to the polls? That means 75% can't be bothered! Very sad.

Not sure if I want anyone in my family to be forced to serve and put their life on the line for these self serving crooked politicians.

(Keep in mind there are plenty of rich people living in apartments who own no land, and plenty of poor people who do own land) YES. Except for the gas tax and or other "user" taxes. If you use a road you should help pay for it, regardless. I haven't looked at the stats in a long time but last i did the top 1% pays like 30% of all income tax collected, the bottom 50% pays none or gets money back. So if we went to such a system would the bottom half would stop getting all the free stuff they are getting by voting for these Jackolanterns? The purpose of the original wording of the voting law was based on the founders knew if you didn't own anything you would always vote to raise the tax those who do. Looks like they nailed it. But the horse is outta the barn, and the barn burned down. All that's left is ranting and venting about it. If I had MY way there would be no elections, just pick names out of a hat, just like jury duty. If you can pick people off the street to decide punitive monetary confiscation or incarceration, what's so hard about governance? After your "term" is up we vote yes or no, maybe more apt to say go or stay, and if 50% or more want stay you stay, if more than 50% say go, we draw another name.
