Anybody hired a dozer lately? A family member used another family members older dozer to do some work at the farm. The man on the dozer is getting $30/hr. Now they're trying to determine what the dozer is worth. Any ideas?

The value of the dozer comes into play here, if its old, clumsy and not very fast, get what ever you can, If it is newer, then go to the nearest dealer and check rates for that size machine. Daily rate for a 15,000 lb machine would be about 800.00, x3 for a week, and 3x week rate for month.

Rates are important for sure but skill can make or break a deal. Just got done with our driveway 3/4 mile long. Cut the sides back to channel the run off and crown the road. Brought in clay gravel then topped with the oversize gravel. $13,000 total and he came in with both trackhoe and a small dozer. The difference is amazing.

I would look for references before brought them in.

It was a Grandson using his Grandpa's very old small dozer doing work for his Uncle. Mixed up deal. They don't want full price for the use of the dozer, just something. They can work it out I guess. Thanks for the replies.

In that case I would say buy him a case of his favorite beer and call it good.

Hard to get a rental quote for equipment per hour as many places have a set charge for say 4 hours etc. When I was teaching ag and farmers leased equipment from each other instead of a dealer etc. we use 1% of the estimated value of the machine per hour. Most felt that was reasonable. Say you were leasing a 40K tractor the rate would be $40 per hour not counting man or fuel. For dozer there is a lot of difference when considering horse power, weight etc.

Years ago rate was 10$ a foot based on width of blade. Around here its 140-160 hr for a d-6 cat 850 deere or 61 kamatsu ect. When I was dozing for my brother he charged 125$ hr for a 750 johndeere and 140 hr for excavator.

$80-90 and hour with operator included. usually a couple hundred for a mobe fee depending on mileage, it was 3500 a week to rent a D5 from the rental place. A good operator can do the work of a novice 10
times as fast. Now if a novice wanted $30 an hour for something simple like pushing stumps, I’d go cheap.

If you want a road built hire a logging company (probably not a lot of loggers in Nebraska sandhills but I don’t know) and wait until they are looking for work when it gets too muddy to log. The logging guys around here could make a cat road into the Grand Canyon that you could drive your Prius down.

We just had an outfit come and tear down an old house and barn. They burned and buried everything. They charged a $180 an hour each for a track-hoe and bucket dozer. $80 and hour for a large skid loader.
