I haven't watched this movie in years,I had the VHS tape but when the VHS player died that was that. With an all star cast this show is one of my all time favorites.I remember reading where Tom Berenger, who plays Gen.James Longstreet and a Civil War buff would try to steer the scenes back to authentic detail if he thought the writers had strayed away from the real happenings of the battle. It's a great time to watch it with the anniversary of the battle coming up,if you have it.I can't imagine how many extras were hired ,thousands. The fight scenes are second to none. The wife is enjoying it as much as I am.Really brings home the sacrifices that were made during that period on both sides.A great movie.

Yes a great movie. There are some interesting cameos too - Ken Burns delivers a message to General Hancock and Ted Turner is shot during Pickett's charge.

My great grandfather defended that hill. He was in the PA unit that captured a bunch of Alabamians that made it to the top.

I find it fascinating listening to those stories of the descendents. We have relatives that fought in the war,but I don't know if they were at Gettysburg.I worked for the ?National Park Service for 15 years and worked with a couple of guys that previously had worked at Gettysburg, and one that worked at Antietem.I always regretted not starting for the NPS earlier in life where I could have have worked Civil War sites.

Google pcn Gettysburg battlefield walks. Some videos should come up.

Its a local tv station that films NPS giving tours every year on the anniversary of the battle.

It is one of my favorite movies, but one must remember that it based on the book by Jeff Shara. The book follows the main characters accurately, but leaves out several key elements. Culp's hill isn't even mentioned and the large cavalry battle was also left out. It's still outstanding. The extras were mostly re-enactors and were very professional. A local bus driver was one of them and he told me that to stretch the extras, they would be Union troops one day and rebels the next. he was filmed being killed 3 times! The cannon barrage is incredible.

Google the story of Jennie Wade, Wesley Culp, William Culp and Jack Shelly from Gettysburg and how they all tied into the battle of Gettysburg. If your ever visit the battlefield, visit the actual house Jennie Wade died in with the bullet whole still in the door that killed her.

Papa Cain made it back down and survived long enough to rebuild his life and fortune back home as he lost everything in the war but he moved to town, Opelika AL, and went into business eventually being able to build a nice home that still stands today and is now a bed and breakfast. I just took possession of his rocking chair this weekend. It was bought new in 1860 and has rocked several generations of babies including myself, my mama and grandmother and my younguns and now grand younguns.

I'm not antigay but how in the world is that appropriate for the site? Seems so out of context.
